About The Position

We have an exciting opportunity for a strategic and passionate Staff Accountant to join our dynamic Payroll team! The Payroll Staff Accountant will provide hands-on operational and financial reporting support. The Payroll Staff Accountant is a strong individual contributor and is responsible for the day-to-day accounting department functions within the Company’s Corporate Payroll Department. This position provides exposure to our payroll-related financial processes and financial reporting as well as working with other departments within the Company. The Payroll Staff Accountant applies both technical accounting knowledge and analytical skills to their work.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3 years of experience in accounting or payroll processing (payroll-specific experience is a plus).
  • Strong understanding of payroll principles, taxation, and accounting practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with employees at all levels.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • payroll-specific experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and maintain accurate payroll general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare and compile payroll financial data in a timely manner to support established schedules and deadlines.
  • Prepare payroll journal entries and supporting schedules for closing.
  • Reconcile assigned payroll accounts including preparation of appropriate documentation, working with individuals in Accounting and Accounts Payable to resolve reconciling items.
  • Analyze records of payroll financial transactions to determine accuracy and completeness of entries.
  • Process payrolls: process employee miscellaneous deductions, garnishments/child support, receive hours and wage data via AS400 and Excel, import data to HRIS, make adjustments (data entry) as necessary, run reports, verify checks, print checks and sort checks, as needed.
  • Report quarterly and annual payroll taxes.
  • Handle unclaimed Property processes. Encompass the gathering of data, state due diligence, and final state reporting.
