We are seeking a motivated Staff Accountant to join our Midwest Regional Finance team in Mankato, Minnesota. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with the Regional Controller and operating unit teams while supporting multiple business locations throughout the region. This role provides hands-on experience in financial reporting, forecasting, project accounting, tax compliance, operational analysis, and process improvement. It is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career accounting professional who wants to develop into a future accounting or finance leader.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • At least one year of accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Construction, project, or job-cost accounting experience.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting software systems.
  • Multi-entity or multi-location accounting experience.
  • Experience with Payroll, AP, AR, Inventory or other areas of accounting.
  • Experience with payroll tax and sales/use tax compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for monthly and annual close activities for multiple operating units.
  • Participate in project review meetings, analyze cost-to-complete estimates, and adjust project budgets to support accurate percentage-of-completion accounting.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and support schedules.
  • Analyze financial results and investigate variances related to forecast and prior period performance.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and management reporting packages.
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Work with operating units to prepare periodic forecasts.
  • Assist Regional Controller and operating unit leadership with ad hoc financial analysis and special projects.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and required documentation.
  • Prepare and file payroll tax returns and sales/use tax returns for multiple jurisdictions.
  • Maintain organized compliance documentation and records.
  • Participate in physical inventory counts and reconciliation activities.
  • Investigate inventory variances and collaborate with operating unit teams to resolve issues.
  • Assist with annual insurance renewals and audit requirements.
  • Provide support, training, and backup assistance to operating unit admin and accounting personnel within the region.
  • Assist the Regional Controller to improve processes, controls, and financial accuracy.
  • Take on additional projects and responsibilities that support regional growth and business objectives.
