About The Position

Kalamata Capital Group, a provider of financing solutions for small and medium-size businesses, is looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. This position will report directly to the Controller and play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting the month-end close process, preparing account reconciliations, and assisting with financial reporting and other accounting functions. The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, dependable, and able to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines. Strong Excel skills are essential for this role. This is a 100% remote position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, required.
  • 2-4 years’ accounting experience in either public or corporate accounting.
  • Experience with month-end close preferred.
  • Experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Experience in a growing or multi-entity organization.
  • Strong (medium to advance) Excel skills required.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to analyze information, identify discrepancies, and solve problems.
  • Excellent organization skills and time management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting while also being a collaborative team member.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of US GAAP including an understanding of account relationships for analytical purposes.
  • Highly proficient in Excel and ability to work with large data sets and advanced formulas
  • Is proactive in identifying and resolving issues.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail and can analytically connect information.
  • Is comfortable asking questions and learning new processes; strong communication.
  • Maintains a high level of professionalism and integrity.
  • Flexibility with an open willingness to work hard, solve problems and always help the team and organization.
  • Ability to act and operate independently in a dedicated home office with minimal daily distractions in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA license or progress towards licensure is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with an ERP or accounting system is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger accounts.
  • Extract, validate and reconcile financial data from our company’s internal deal system
  • Perform monthly reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist with the month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts.
  • Monitor accounts payable, finance receivables, and other accounting activity as assigned.
  • Assist with accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets and other accounting transactions.
  • Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for financial reporting.
  • Prepare balance sheet and P&L fluctuation analysis.
  • Support the preparation of audit and tax schedules.
  • Maintain organized and accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with other departments to research and resolve accounting related questions.
  • Perform other accounting and financial duties as assigned.
