Staff Accountant

About The Position

The Staff Accountant works under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and maintains accurate day-to-day general ledger operations, manages month-end close processes, reconciles complex accounts, and supports compliance with GAAP and healthcare regulatory requirements. The role supports the CFO with financial analysis and institutional asset tracking, and collaborates with hospital departments. The schedule is weekdays, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Requirements

1 to 3+ years of general ledger accounting experience.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to demonstrate analytical and mathematical problem-solving skills.
Firm understanding of GAAP.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with department managers and non-financial medical staff.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related business field is preferred.
Experience in a hospital, clinic, or healthcare environment is highly valued.
Proficiency with Excel pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and complex formulas is preferred.
Familiarity with ERP or hospital billing software is an advantage.
Awareness of HIPAA guidelines concerning the security of sensitive financial and institutional information is preferred.

Responsibilities

Prepare, record, and post monthly journal entries, accruals, and prepaid expense schedules.
Perform timely reconciliations of hospital bank accounts and balance sheet accounts.
Assist the CFO with close procedures, financial statement preparation, and supporting schedules.
Collaborate with billing and revenue cycle teams to audit patient accounts, track departmental expenses, and flag budget variances.
Prepare schedules and compile audit documentation for external, internal, and government healthcare audits.
Produce ad hoc financial statements, track hospital fixed assets, and verify operational datasets for accuracy.
