About The Position

Our client, a highly respected public accounting and advisory firm recognized as one of Virginia's top workplaces, is seeking a Staff Accountant I to join its Business Services Group (BSG). This is an outstanding opportunity for an early-career accounting professional to gain broad exposure across tax, accounting, advisory, and client service engagements while working alongside experienced Managers and Principals. As a Staff Accountant I, you'll assist with tax preparation, accounting engagements, bookkeeping services, financial statement preparation, tax research, and consulting projects for a diverse client base that includes closely held businesses, government contractors, nonprofit organizations, real estate firms, construction companies, healthcare providers, and professional service organizations. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 1+ year of accounting, tax, or public accounting experience
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Prepare individual tax returns and supporting workpapers
  • Assist with corporate and partnership tax return preparation
  • Prepare tax return extensions and related filings
  • Organize client documentation and engagement files
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state filing requirements
  • Perform bookkeeping and accounting services for business clients
  • Support nonprofit and closely held business engagements
  • Prepare and maintain financial records
  • Assist with accounting projects and client deliverables
  • Support preparation of financial statements
  • Conduct tax research assignments
  • Assist with tax planning projects
  • Analyze financial information to support client needs
  • Learn applicable tax laws and regulations
  • Support consulting and advisory engagements
  • Prepare client correspondence and communications
  • Respond professionally to client requests
  • Develop positive client relationships
  • Assist with gathering client information and documentation
  • Support engagement teams throughout projects
