About The Position

Mid-States Bolt & Screw, a trusted local fastener distributor, is seeking a Staff Accountant to support our growing business and add to our great finance team! Based out of our corporate headquarters in Burton, MI. We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Staff Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting functions while supporting financial reporting, month-end close, budgeting, and business analysis. This role plays a key part in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records while providing valuable insights that support operational and strategic decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of accounting or related financial experience.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (Epicor P21 preferred).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with Power BI or Power Query is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and record journal entries in the general ledger.
  • Own and support critical components of the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and other account reconciliations.
  • Prepare and maintain sales tax filings and jurisdiction updates.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by preparing supporting schedules and documentation.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Analyze financial results and investigate discrepancies and variances.
  • Develop and maintain financial reports, dashboards, and key performance indicator (KPI) reporting.
  • Partner with operational leaders to provide financial analysis and business insights.
  • Assist accounts payable and accounts receivable processes as needed.
  • Support vendor expense processing and ACH vendor setup.
  • Assist with overseas invoice processing and related accounting activities.
  • Participate in the development and continuous improvement of accounting procedures, internal controls, and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist with special projects and other finance initiatives as assigned.
