About The Position

Graylog is seeking a Part-Time Staff Accountant to join their finance department. This role offers exposure to the full accounting cycle, including general ledger close, accounts payable and receivable processing, expense reimbursements, bank reconciliations, and account reconciliations. The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Controller and Senior Accountant to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance, and efficient operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented individual with accounting experience to work independently within a growing technology business. The position is based in Houston, Texas, and requires approximately 20 hours per week, with flexibility for occasional office visits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in accounting or finance roles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, Asana, Subscript, Gusto, Expensify) and MS Excel.
  • Thorough understanding of accounting principles and financial concepts.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in work.

  • Flexibility to be in the Houston office a couple times per month or when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting tasks, process accounts payable invoices, expense reimbursements, and accounts receivable transactions in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and assist in the collection of overdue receivables.
  • Perform timely reconciliations of bank accounts, including daily cash postings and month-end reconciliations.
  • Perform month-end processes, including reconciliations and journal entries for activities such as accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, accounts payable, cash, and payroll-related accounts.
  • Support the accounting function in maintaining a 5-business day close.
  • Assist the Accounting Manager in processing payroll bi-monthly, including input of new hire and term payroll information.
  • Manage multiple email inboxes related to general accounting inquiries, invoice inquiries from customers, and payroll inquiries from employees.
  • Support the Accounting Manager in state payroll tax compliance.
  • Assist in the preparation and documentation for the annual audit.
  • Identify, recommend, and initiate process improvements and enhancements.
