About The Position

Girls Inc. is seeking a Part-Time Contract Staff Accountant, ideal for graduate students, to support their accounting operations. This role involves maintaining financial records, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and assisting with financial reporting. The position offers flexible hours, direct exposure to nonprofit fund accounting, and the potential for a full-time role. The Staff Accountant will work closely with the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely financial information in compliance with GAAP and company policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP.
  • Experience with ERP or accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle, QuickBooks).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of financial statement preparation.
  • Strong account reconciliation skills.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and identify variances.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to continuous process improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Sage Intacct or similar accounting systems is a plus.
  • Nonprofit fund accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience with financial grant accounting.
  • Experience with financial reporting and audits.
  • Knowledge of internal controls and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post daily, weekly, and monthly journal entries.
  • Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank accounts, and balance sheet accounts.
  • Maintain and analyze financial records for accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Assist in preparing monthly financial statements and management reports.
  • Process fixed asset additions, disposals, and depreciation.
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Process payroll.
  • Prepare information for regulatory reports (i.e., 990), when applicable.
  • Assist with external audits by providing requested documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company accounting policies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial information.
  • Perform other accounting and finance duties as assigned.
  • Proficiency in the use of information technology - Windows Office environment (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
