About The Position

Kona Kai San Diego Resort is seeking a positive, hard-working, self-motivated individual to join their team as a Staff Accountant. This role will remotely support multiple properties: Headlands Coastal Lodge and Spa, The Inn at Cape Kiwanda, and Hart’s Camp. The Staff Accountant will assist with the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department, including income audit, intercompany transactions, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general cashiering. The role involves assisting with the monthly close process, preparing and posting journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, and preparing monthly financial statements for multiple entities. The position also provides financial support for forecasting and budgeting, advises on accounting policies, participates in physical inventories, conducts financial analysis, works with auditors, ensures compliance with government requirements, assists with tax returns, and supports the Director of Finance for accurate and timely financial reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in the current field - a previous hotel preferred
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Time Management skills to complete all work in allotted time
  • Excellent attention to details to meet both internal and external client needs
  • Excellent problem resolution skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Understanding and knowledge of basic accounting principals

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the daily processes of the Accounting Department, which include income audit, intercompany transactions, accounts payable, accounts receivable, & general cashiering.
  • Assist in the full-cycle monthly close including the preparation and posting of journal entries as well as assisting in the reconciliation of balance sheet account activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of the monthly financial statements and balance sheet reconciliations for multiple entities.
  • Provide financial support as needed to the business entities during forecast and budgeting process.
  • Advise business units on and assist with implementation of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the monthly physical inventories process as required by policy.
  • Provide financial analysis as requested, including commentary on variances to budget, forecast, and/or prior year(s), where applicable.
  • Work with internal/external auditors and provide needed information for annual audits.
  • Ensure compliance with Pacific City local, state, and federal government requirements as applicable.
  • Assist in the completion of the quarterly Hospitality Tax and Oregon CAT returns.
  • Assist Director of Finance as needed to ensure accurate and timely reporting of financials.
  • Balance the daily income audit journal with accuracy and minimal direction.
  • Review daily clearing charges to insure all customers are properly charged.
  • Reconcile the daily credit card and bank cash deposit.
