About The Position

CRM Rental Management, Inc. is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant II for its Corporate Office in Rome, NY. This role is responsible for performing intermediate-level accounting functions for affordable housing portfolios, including LIHTC, HUD, RD, and other subsidized housing programs. The position supports accurate property- and partnership-level financial reporting, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, and assists with month-end and year-end close activities. The ideal candidate has experience in property management accounting and a solid understanding of affordable housing compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, with a minimum of 2 years in affordable housing or property management accounting.
  • Working knowledge of LIHTC and/or HUD programs.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and property-level accounting.
  • Experience with property management accounting software (e.g., RealPage, Yardi, MRI, or similar systems).
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and account reconciliations.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines across a diverse property portfolio.
  • Must be able to pass a 5-year background check.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cost certifications and compliance audits.
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
  • Experience with partnership accounting and fund accounting.
  • Familiarity with state housing agency reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals and recurring entries, for affordable housing properties.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes for multiple properties and legal entities.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, including bank accounts, reserves, security deposits, restricted cash, and other balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare and review monthly property financial statements and perform variance analyses.
  • Support LIHTC, HUD, RD, and other regulatory reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Assist with annual audits, cost certifications, and compliance reviews.
  • Track, reconcile, and monitor replacement reserves and restricted cash accounts.
  • Collaborate with property management teams on financial and operational matters.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and affordable housing program requirements.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to accounting processes, controls, and reporting efficiencies.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff as needed.
