About The Position

Performs advanced and complex accounting functions, including financial reporting and regulatory compliance, within a nonprofit organization. This role supports organizational decision-making by ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial data. Partners with the Accounting Management team to enhance processes and internal controls, including balance sheet and income statement reconciliations and the effective execution of month-end and year-end close activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a similar position required.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state financial regulations, generally accepted accounting principles, and non-profit financial policies and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, projections, and reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of standard and fund accounting principles, methods, and applications including complex expense allocations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
  • Knowledge of computerized information systems used in financial and/or accounting applications (including Microsoft Excel at an advanced level).
  • Account balancing and reconciling skills and the ability to set up and maintain financial accounts and ledgers.
  • Maintain highest degree of integrity and must be detail oriented.
  • Sound judgment with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Prioritize work and meet necessary deadlines.
  • Ability to operate and use office equipment, especially computer, keyboard and mouse.
  • Ability to continuously sit and/or stand and may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Reliable transportation to travel to off-site locations as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Non-Profit experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Medicaid and/or low-income housing accounting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries and complete balance sheet account reconciliations, including analysis and independent recommendations as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and complete supporting documentation for all journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze complex spreadsheets; prepare financial data for system input; perform calculations; and generate reports.
  • Review expenditures, personnel labor allocations, and purchasing documents for accuracy, appropriateness, and compliance with organizational policies and state and federal funding requirements.
  • Analyze, reconcile, and maintain accounting records; assist with budget preparation and special financial reporting.
  • Perform and support inventory counts, including related accounting and internal controls.
  • Assist with annual budget development and ongoing financial forecasting.
  • Prepare accurate and timely schedules and supporting documentation for the annual audit and tax filings.
  • Support month-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements to systems, workflows, and internal controls.
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of accounting policies and best practices.
  • Safeguard confidential information, organizational assets, and electronic data in compliance with company policies and safety standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
