About The Position

The Staff Accountant plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial operations by participating in month-end closing cycle, including the preparation of journal entries, bank reconciliations, and general ledger balance sheet reconciliations, including intercompany activity. This role ensures the accuracy and completeness of financial records, including monitoring and recording bank transactions, including ACH receipts, wire transfers, and deposits. The Staff Accountant actively contributes to annual projects including the audit and Form 990 by preparation by ensuring well-organized and reliable supporting documentation. This role collaborates closely with other members of the Finance teams to coordinate accounting functions and administrative processes, fostering efficient, compliant operations and offering a strong foundation for continued professional growth and development.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience working in a general accounting role
  • Strong understanding of GAAP principles
  • Highly skilled in using MS Excel spreadsheets

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • Netsuite or cloud based ERP experience
  • Experience with Big 4 Accounting Firm
  • Accounts payable function experience
  • Non-profit GAAP accounting experience highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Supports the monthly close process, including reconciliation of cash, accounts receivable, prepaid expenses, pledges receivable, and other general ledger accounts, as assigned.
  • Prepares bank transactions, including ACH receipts for grants and customer payments; donations received via GoFundMe, PayPal, and Stripe; rental income processed through PayPal; and employee-related benefit payments (medical, dental, prescription, retirement, stop-loss, commuter benefits, among others).
  • Records check deposits, including donations, and apply payments to outstanding invoices.
  • Records cash transfers among bank accounts.
  • Reconcile the master bank account on a weekly basis.
  • Assists with Corporate credit card processing including the reconciliation of related general ledger accounts.
  • Supports the annual audit and Form 990 preparation by developing schedules, completing reconciliations, and compiling relevant documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Assists in monitoring compliance with institutional financial policies and deadlines.
  • Provide back-up support for Accounts Payable team as necessary; receives, reviews, and processes invoices, in a timely manner applying appropriate controls to ensure accuracy and legitimacy.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned
