About The Position

As a Senior UX/UI Product Designer in Daimler Truck North America’s Design Center, you will lead design work on production vehicles and next-generation human-machine interface (HMI) concepts, contributing to in-cabin digital experiences across Freightliner, Western Star, and other global brands. You will own significant product areas, set the team’s quality bar, shape HMI design decisions, and combine hands-on execution with design direction, mentoring, and cross-functional alignment. The role focuses on designing high-quality in-vehicle user interfaces, including typography, color, iconography, layout, and motion. You will create implementation-ready specifications, assets, and reusable design-system components; build high-fidelity prototypes; and craft glance-based interfaces that balance driver safety, brand expression, and system complexity. You will translate product requirements, user needs, and brand intent into cohesive solutions; identify experience gaps; and advocate for the driver experience using research and evidence. You will partner with human factors and research teams to test concepts with drivers and refine designs based on findings. Working with engineering, product strategy, and truck technology colleagues across a global team, you will own complex workstreams from ambiguous brief through production handoff, present design rationale to senior stakeholders, and mentor junior and mid-level designers. The position is based in Portland, Oregon, with a hybrid schedule of four days per week in the office and one day remote. Relocation assistance is not available. The stated starting salary range is $117,000–$150,000 USD, with pay dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.
