Sr Test Technician (1st shift 5:00am-2:30pm)

Mercury Systems•Phoenix, AZ

About The Position

Test and troubleshoot state-of-the-art complex digital system assemblies in a fast-paced and changing environment. The role is part of the Test Engineering group, which ensures the proper operation and functionality of advanced technological products. This is a seasoned individual-contributor position in the Test sub-family, working under limited supervision in routine and defined situations. The technician performs functional tests and verifies the fit, form, and functionality of PCBs and systems. The work includes setting up and using specialized test equipment, validating configurations and test processes, collecting and reporting performance data, programming and verifying devices, troubleshooting defects, and supporting engineers and production teams in resolving failures. The role also involves performing environmental testing, including thermal, shock, and vibration tests.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Typically 3 or more years of relevant hands-on experience.
  • Experience performing complex testing and moderate problem-solving on digital systems and subassemblies.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing quality standards and ability to read schematics and other technical data.
  • Ability to prepare complex test reports and data according to functional and acceptance-level test procedures, and potentially assist with redlining existing functional test procedures.
  • Ability to troubleshoot assemblies, determine root causes, and debug moderate to complex problems.
  • Experience using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, serial emulators, networking devices, and other laboratory tools.
  • Knowledge of practical applications of engineering and technology, including applying principles, techniques, and procedures to manufacturing processes and understanding manufacturing design techniques and principles.
  • Knowledge of production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for improving manufacturing efficiency.
  • Ability to read and perform test procedures and communicate effectively about potential issues.
  • Ability to identify root causes of operating errors, apply logic to complex problems, develop solutions, and anticipate how operational or process-flow changes may affect manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
  • Experience with electronics troubleshooting and debugging, including interpreting complex schematics and functional or diagnostic specifications to determine failure causes in a test environment.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain required U.S. government authorizations to access information subject to U.S. export regulations.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, including the ability to work with others to meet deadlines and complete tasks on time.
  • Broad understanding of computer systems, including basic TCP/IP, serial communications, RDP, Linux, and basic command structure.
  • Basic ability to interpret and modify plain-text scripts.
  • Ability to maintain training on applicable equipment and procedures as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Apply electronics principles to test and troubleshoot high-density, multi-system assemblies with multiple CPUs and FPGAs at board and system level.
  • Perform functional test procedures that verify PCB and system fit, form, and functionality.
  • Monitor diagnostics tests and measure performance on complex systems.
  • Select, set up, and deploy specialized equipment and facilities across a broad range of technologies.
  • Verify and validate product configuration, test processes, and test equipment setup and operation.
  • Measure, collect, and record performance data; prepare complete and accurate test reports.
  • Program and verify devices.
  • Troubleshoot systems, devices, processes, and test setups to locate and repair defective areas.
  • Assist engineers with processes and operations that ensure products and test equipment function according to design specifications, using diagrams, circuit outlines, instructions, schematics, and calculations as needed.
  • Perform initial procedural tests on new or changed equipment and recommend modifications as needed.
  • Submit defect and non-conforming-material reports and communicate with production teams to resolve defects and product failures.
  • Perform thermal, shock, vibration, and environmental testing.
  • Complete other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive skills training.
  • Tuition reimbursement.
