About The Position

Airbus is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to be a technical cornerstone for the Flexrotor platform, bridging complex software foundations and physical hardware. This role involves defining MBSE models for autonomous missions. The ideal candidate is a US Person with 8+ years of experience and a passion for leading cross-functional teams through the full engineering lifecycle. The Airbus Helicopters Flexrotor Program offers a sophisticated small tactical unmanned aerial system (STUAS) with vertical take-off and landing (VTOL), used for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR) on land and at sea.

Requirements

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or an appropriate discipline from an accredited educational institution.
  • Eight (8) + years of experience in systems engineering, with specific experience in leadership or mentoring.
  • Systems engineering fundamentals: requirements development, system architecture, and lifecycle management.
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using SysML/UML for mission, functional, and interface modeling.
  • Software-intensive system architectures, including simulator foundations and software–hardware integration.
  • Strong working knowledge of MBSE tools (SysML or UML).
  • Experience defining software foundations for simulators or complex product environments.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, G-suite, JIRA/Confluence.
  • US Person under ITAR definition (U.S. Citizen, green card holder or person covered under our existing ITAR license).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the aerospace and defense industry, specifically with UAS/UAV systems.
  • Experience with MagicDraw/Cameo Systems Modeler.
  • Project/Program Management Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Gather system needs, define architecture, and derive subsystem requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Generate design specifications and associated models for systems.
  • Perform a range of system model development, analysis, or review tasks under minimal supervision.
  • Define and architect the software foundation for simulators, ensuring the development team can produce the required software components.
  • Develop Systems Models from derived customer requirements and define the System Level design following MBSE using SysML or UML.
  • Experience in modelling to capture the system design for missions, functions, and interfaces.
  • Contribute to system designs, including capturing the role of software and ensuring these will become a working system.
  • Coordinate and work closely with other engineering and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements.
  • Support validation, verification, acceptance, and certification activities.
  • Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.
  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.
  • Establish and maintain a filing system or databases as needed for tracking project status.
  • Prepare and conduct design reviews with internal and external customers.
  • Collaborate with the Ground Systems team to ensure user requirements are fully captured and traced.
  • Work with development teams to share the high-level architecture.
  • May lead and direct the work of other engineers and stakeholders while acting as the Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Act as a Lead on less complex tasks and responsible for a portion of a model or section of an analysis or design review.
  • Provide architectural guidance during the entire project lifecycle.
  • Support development of technical proposals and provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work.
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in system engineering.
  • Conduct trade-off studies and evaluate optimizations, new technologies, and tools.
  • Drive the ramp-up of Flexrotor with knowledge of software and hardware solutions within a product environment.
