Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest energy provider, serving 6.8 million residents across 68 Lower Peninsula counties. This is a hybrid position requiring onsite work on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center in Michigan's lower Peninsula within the Electric Territory. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package available). The Senior System Protection Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and protection of moderately complex high voltage power systems. They will oversee lower-level engineers and technicians in developing and implementing protection schemes for transmission and distribution systems, and coordinate these schemes with other utilities. The role also involves developing control philosophies and sequences for larger, moderately complex generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The Fault Analysis Engineer ensures the correct operation of protective systems on Consumers Energy’s 138kV and 46kV distribution system, responds to emergent fault events and disturbances to support real-time operations and customer outage restoration, and completes detailed studies of fault events to ensure correct operation and identify faulty operations of protection schemes. This role collaborates with Engineering and Operations to develop corrective action plans, develops monitoring recommendations and communication settings, supports the evaluation of new equipment, and supports NERC compliance (PRC-002, PRC-004, & PRC-005).
