About The Position

LinkedIn is seeking a Sr. Staff Software Engineer for its Capacity & Efficiency Engineering team. The team develops LinkedIn’s end-to-end infrastructure capacity planning and efficiency strategy, including the data, models, and planning systems that connect infrastructure demand to business growth, attribute costs to products, and forecast resource needs across infrastructure platforms. These systems inform Product, Finance, and Infrastructure leadership decisions about investment, capacity allocation, budgets, and efficiency. In this senior technical leadership role, you will build foundational datasets, models, and tools for infrastructure visibility, cost attribution, and planning. You will set technical standards, mentor engineers, and work with cross-functional stakeholders to develop solutions. The position is hybrid, performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days as determined by team business needs.

  • At least 5 years of industry experience in software design, development, and algorithm-related solutions.
  • At least 5 years of programming experience in object-oriented languages such as C/C++, Java, Go, Rust, Python, or Scala.
  • At least 2 years of experience as an architect or in a technical leadership position.
  • Professional experience in capacity planning, infrastructure efficiency, or infrastructure cost and allocation systems at scale.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical leadership, cloud, on-premises infrastructure, capacity engineering, and distributed systems skills.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the architecture for capacity planning and efficiency platforms, including systems for demand forecasting, resource allocation, and infrastructure investment optimization.
  • Build datasets, signals, and planning tools to identify right-sizing, reclamation, and optimization opportunities and translate them into measurable infrastructure savings.
  • Set high standards for the quality, correctness, and reliability of data and models used in capacity and financial decisions.
  • Personally drive critical implementations and tackle complex engineering challenges through hands-on coding and architecture work.
  • Influence technical strategy across organizational boundaries, mentor senior and staff engineers, and raise engineering standards beyond the immediate team.
