About The Position

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. is hiring a Sr Staff, Product and Test Engineer in its Hardware Engineering group. The role creates test plans, test procedures, manufacturing solutions, and hardware designs for leading-edge mid- to high-power ASIC products using advanced process technologies. The engineer performs silicon design verification, debugs functional device issues, characterizes devices, and analyzes electrical parameters and KPIs against design simulations. The role works with cross-functional teams to introduce test and design solutions into production programs and improve yield, test time, productivity, and quality. It also evaluates the reliability of materials, properties, and production techniques. The engineer develops and validates system-on-chip designs, electronic parts, components, integrated circuitry, and packaging; provides solutions to characterize and implement designs for leading-edge products; and conducts or reviews specialized analyses such as feasibility, signal integrity, power integrity, and teardown analyses. The role works independently with little supervision, leads mid-sized to large projects, owns project outcomes, and coordinates project activities across teams, locations, and time zones. It requires sound judgment, advanced problem solving and analysis, substantial creativity, and the ability to communicate complex information and influence organizational decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or a related field and 6 or more years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience; or a master's degree in one of these fields and 5 or more years of related experience; or a PhD in one of these fields and 4 or more years of related experience.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for conveying complex or detailed information to audiences with differing levels of knowledge.
  • Ability to use negotiation and influence, including communicating with large groups or high-level constituents.
  • Advanced data analysis and interpretation skills, including problem solving when information is missing or conflicting.
  • Ability to exercise creativity to develop processes, procedures, or work products and to determine approaches for tasks without defined steps.
  • Ability to coordinate project activities and deliverables across teams, locations, and time zones.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 8 or more years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.
  • 2 or more years of experience with hardware design and measurement instruments such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, or RF tools.
  • 1 or more years in a technical leadership role, with or without direct reports.

Responsibilities

  • Develop complex features and components of hardware designs for complex products, and advise less experienced engineers on testing and design tasks.
  • Apply advanced design rules and processes for electronic hardware, equipment, and integrated circuitry.
  • Interpret device specification sheets and guide less experienced engineers in working with specifications.
  • Optimize tests and hardware designs by evaluating device performance across operating conditions and configurations.
  • Evaluate design features for electrical, mechanical, hardware, compatibility, and compliance issues.
  • Document materials, components, chipsets, and device functionality, considering compatibility, safety, and compliance.
  • Troubleshoot product-design issues, develop solutions, and share documentation with internal teams.
  • Provide technical input, support, and documentation for internal customers, and advise less experienced engineers on client support.
  • Act as technical lead on mid-sized to large projects and own project outcomes.
  • Manage project meetings, documentation, and deliverables across teams, locations, and time zones through project completion.
  • Evaluate and test hardware designs to identify potentially patentable components or functions, and share findings with a manager.
  • Maintain and share expertise in a specific engineering area, industry trends, competitor products, and advances in engineering.
  • Conduct or review specialized analyses, including feasibility studies, signal integrity, power integrity, and teardown analyses, and guide junior engineers.
  • Develop design implementation, analysis, methodology, flows, and automation for development and validation of system-on-chip products, electronic parts, components, integrated circuitry, and packaging.
  • Develop solutions to evaluate and characterize leading-edge product designs and their implementation.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, including RF, analog and digital IC design, software, systems engineering, test engineering, customer engineering, and operations, to improve production yield, productivity, and quality.

Benefits

  • Competitive annual discretionary bonus program.
  • Opportunity for annual RSU grants; employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for the annual bonus.
  • Competitive benefits package designed to support employees at work, at home, and at play.
