About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Sr. Staff Accountant to join our dynamic finance team. In this pivotal role, you will leverage your expertise in accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance to ensure the accuracy and integrity of our financial statements. Your proactive approach will support sound institutional decision-making by maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and organizational policies, and delivering timely, reliable financial reporting. This role owns key accounting processes, leads assigned month-end and year-end close activities, performs complex reconciliations and analysis, strengthens internal controls, and provides informed guidance to staff and management. The position also contributes to audit readiness, process improvement, strategic planning, and the continued development of the accounting function.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required; CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including ownership of month-end close activities and financial statement preparation.
  • Demonstrated experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, accruals, revenue and expense analysis, and audit support.
  • Advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP and the ability to research, document, and apply accounting guidance to complex business transactions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial review skills with consistent attention to accuracy, materiality, and detail.
  • Ability to independently prioritize multiple deadlines, identify financial and control risks, and drive accounting activities to completion in a complex business environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present financial information and recommendations to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with ERP, accounting, expense management, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes, document procedures, maintain effective internal controls, and mentor colleagues on accounting practices.
  • Ability to support occasional evenings/weekends during peak seasons and major events (Convention, Capitol Hill Media Summit, etc.).
  • Willingness to travel for NRB events as needed.
  • Mature, committed Christian faith and full alignment with NRB’s Mission, Statement of Faith, and Code of Ethics.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a SaaS or software environment strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct preferred.
  • Experience in the nonprofit sector preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Own assigned general ledger accounts and key accounting cycles, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash, accruals, and other related complex balance sheet accounts.
  • Lead assigned month-end and year-end close activities, prepare and review journal entries, complete timely balance sheet reconciliations, and resolve identified issues.
  • Prepare and review accurate monthly financial statements, supporting schedules, variance analyses, and management reporting for NRB and NRBTV.
  • Oversee invoice coding, approval workflows, payment processing, vendor documentation, and successful synchronization with the accounting system.
  • Manage customer billing, statements, cash receipts, and collection follow-up; research and resolve account discrepancies and recommend corrective action.
  • Maintain the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial records in accordance with U.S. GAAP, organizational policies, and established close timelines.
  • Coordinate audit support, prepare requested schedules, respond to auditor inquiries, and assist with tax and regulatory reporting.
  • Evaluate accounting processes and internal controls, recommend improvements, and lead implementation of scalable procedures and documentation.
  • Serve as a technical resource to colleagues and management, providing guidance on accounting treatment, reporting, and financial processes and reviewing work as assigned.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, strategic initiatives, system implementations, and other special projects as assigned.
  • Support benefits-related accounting, reconciliations, and help coordinate annual open enrollment.
  • To perform other duties, as assigned by the CFO.
