About The Position

The Human Resources (HR) team at the National Geographic Society (NGS) is responsible for finding, growing, and retaining talent, as well as building the NGS community. HR focuses on creating and implementing people and total reward strategies to enhance employee culture and experience. The department comprises HR Business Partners, Total Rewards & Recognition, Talent Management, and leads the NGS internship program. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Staff Talent Development, the Staff Talent Development Senior Specialist will collaborate with their manager to develop engaging onboarding and learning and development programs and resources. These initiatives will support the opening of the Museum of Exploration (MoE) and help NGS cultivate key leadership skills to meet evolving workforce needs. This includes curating existing online and instructor-led training content to establish a range of learning and onboarding paths for staff. The Senior Specialist should possess strong communication and organizational skills, a proactive approach, and a passion for creating innovative learning experiences.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of work experience in learning and development/training and talent management
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Creative thinking, responsive problem-solving, and attention to detail
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Works with manager to design innovative and engaging onboarding and learning content for NGS staff, leaders, and teams
  • Create training materials and slide decks, as well as supporting materials such as rubrics, manuals, training guides, assets and more
  • Conduct research to support content development
  • Coordinate efforts with HR Business Partners, internal communications, stakeholders, and contractors to ensure opportunities are widely accessible to all staff
  • Provide support for virtual, in-person, and online training events, including co-facilitation
  • Monitor and evaluate workshop evaluation data to inform strategy and decision making
  • Gather and analyze data to evaluate and improve team and organizational effectiveness
  • Support development of performance management frameworks, materials, training and communication including goal-setting, check-ins throughout the year and year-end performance reviews
