Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of relevant technician or field service experience
  • Demonstrated expertise with optical test equipment, tools, and procedures
  • Ability to work independently in dynamic field or lab environments
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in a STEM field or equivalent experience
  • Experience supporting fiber optic network installation or systems engineering workflows
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and technical documentation
  • Experience with data analysis tools, automation, or process improvement initiatives
  • Prior experience mentoring or guiding junior technicians/contractors

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of fiber optic systems, components, and related equipment
  • Lead or independently execute field activities and lab activities, troubleshooting issues, and contributing to process improvement
  • Serve as a technical lead on projects—coordinate tasks, prioritize work, and ensure execution quality
  • Diagnose complex technical issues and implement corrective actions with minimal supervision
  • Support customer-facing activities, including on-site troubleshooting and technical guidance
  • Conduct product evaluations and report performance, quality, and competitive insights
  • Assist in development and delivery of technical training (internal or customer-facing)
  • Create, update, and maintain technical procedures, documentation, and training material
  • Support engineering and cross-functional teams with data collection, analysis, and process improvements
  • A high degree of creativity to implement customer ideas to new or existing products
  • Significant hands-on activity required for building mock-ups and prototypes. Proven craftsmanship and quality of work when building and creating product samples and concepts.
  • Travel up to 25% as needed for support of newer products and support for customers
