Sr. Software Integration Engineer

Rivian•Normal, IL

About The Position

The Sr. Software Integration Engineer integrates, configures, and validates software across embedded systems and vehicle platforms. The role works closely with software, systems, hardware, test, and program teams to deliver stable, release-ready software builds and resolve integration issues throughout development. The engineer owns First Pass Yield (FPY) metrics for software integration and flashing workflows, supports ECU flashing and software package approvals, and maintains integration plans, build configurations, release notes, and change traceability. The role also brings up builds on benches, validates compatibility across hardware and software versions, diagnoses software-to-ECU failures, and develops automation for build, deployment, smoke-test, and validation workflows. The position partners with software and validation teams to define and execute integration and regression tests, identifies integration risks and readiness gaps, supports release readiness reviews, and contributes to continuous improvement of integration processes, test coverage, and development infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience integrating software for embedded, automotive, robotics, or other complex systems.
  • Proficiency with at least one programming or scripting language.
  • Familiarity with version control and collaborative development workflows, such as Git and code review.
  • Experience debugging software across component and system boundaries using logs, debuggers, test equipment, or network-analysis tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, including the ability to turn ambiguous integration failures into actionable issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple dependencies and collaborate effectively across disciplines.
  • Ability to work with Linux.

Nice To Haves

  • Python, C/C++, or Rust.
  • Experience with automotive communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, or Ethernet, and tools such as CANoe or Wireshark.
  • Familiarity with embedded Linux, RTOS environments, ECU architectures, bootloaders, or over-the-air update workflows.
  • Experience with continuous integration systems, automated testing, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), software-in-the-loop (SIL), or vehicle testing.
  • Knowledge of functional safety, cybersecurity, or automotive software development practices.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate software components and releases across embedded controllers, vehicle networks, and supporting systems.
  • Own First Pass Yield (FPY) metrics for software integration and flashing workflows by defining measurement methods, monitoring and reporting results, investigating misses, and driving corrective actions.
  • Support ECU flashing activities, participate in approvals for software packages and configurations, and improve flashing procedures, capacity, and issue resolution.
  • Maintain integration plans, build configurations, release notes, and traceability for software changes.
  • Bring up new software builds on benches and flash equipment; verify compatibility across hardware and software versions.
  • Lead software-to-ECU failure diagnostics and resolution using logs, debugging tools, network traces, and test results; isolate root causes, coordinate corrective actions, and track issues through closure.
  • Develop and maintain scripts and tools to automate build, deployment, smoke-test, and validation workflows.
  • Define and execute integration and regression tests in partnership with software and validation teams.
  • Identify integration risks, dependencies, and readiness gaps; communicate status and escalate blockers with clear technical context.
  • Support release readiness reviews and ensure known issues, workarounds, and software dependencies are documented.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of integration processes, test coverage, and development infrastructure.
