About The Position

PayPal, Inc. seeks Sr Software Engineer in Austin, TX. This role involves analyzing software product requirements and transforming them into scalable technical designs. The engineer will create new product design specifications for PayPal’s payments engine software to enhance the efficiency of real-time processing for millions of PayPal’s payments every single day for merchants. Collaboration with other engineers, managers, product management, quality analysts, and operations teams is essential to develop innovative software products and solutions that meet market needs regarding functionality, performance, availability, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules, and adherence to software development goals and principles. The role requires researching, analyzing, designing, developing, and testing appropriate solutions that align with business and technology strategies. A key responsibility includes designing and implementing Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to integrate, test, and deploy code into new technical designs. The engineer will develop automated tests and deliver high-quality software code to production within a short development cycle in the continuous integration and delivery environment. Identifying and fixing performance, scalability, and other software live issues in a time-critical environment is crucial. The role also involves driving architecture discussions, producing well-documented design docs, and participating in design and code reviews. Estimating engineering effort, planning implementation, and rolling out system changes are also part of the duties. Partial telecommuting is permitted from within a commutable distance.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field plus two years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field plus five years of progressively responsible experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Software engineering, object-oriented programming, infrastructure engineering, or DevOps (2 years)
  • Java, Groovy, or Go (2 years)
  • DevOps – Jenkins, CI/CD, Terraform (IoC), and related technologies (2 years)
  • Experience designing/implementing/migration of CI/CD pipelines (2 years)
  • Docker/Containerization and Kubernetes (2 years)
  • Provisioning or maintaining on-prem or cloud infrastructure (2 years)
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
