Sr. Software Engineer - Leasing

AppFolio is hiring a senior-level full-stack Software Engineer for its Leasing Engineering Team. The role helps drive rapid product development and shapes the technical direction of SaaS products by building high-quality, easy-to-use solutions. Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience developing and scaling web-based applications, preferably in a SaaS environment.
- Comfort working across all levels of the development stack and ability to break down complex problems.
- Experience leading technical projects end-to-end, from requirements and architecture through implementation, launch, and ongoing optimization, while aligning stakeholders.
- Experience with modern Agile software development practices such as Scrum, Kanban, and CI/CD.
- Strong experience with automated testing and understanding of its role in sustainable engineering.
- Deep experience with at least one modern programming language, such as Ruby, Java, or Python; language-agnostic approach.
- Pragmatic approach to technology, adopting new tools where valuable and mastering proven technologies.
- Commitment to long-term maintainability, clean architecture, continuous refactoring, and improvement.
- Ability to balance intensity and sustainability, going the extra mile when needed while modeling healthy work-life balance.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
- Experience with technologies such as Ruby on Rails, React, AWS, or service-oriented architectures.
- Experience with AI/ML technologies and their integration into SaaS applications.
- Experience leading architectural discussions, defining system design, and guiding technical decisions.
Responsibilities
- Develop scalable, resilient, and elegant web-based solutions to solve complex business problems at scale.
- Lead by example in design, coding, and architecture; mentor and coach engineers to raise the team’s technical bar.
- Formulate, implement, and optimize algorithms and database queries to support SaaS scalability, performance, and stability.
- Design and deliver new features and improve existing features, emphasizing robustness, maintainability, and performance.
- Promote engineering excellence through test-driven development, thoughtful code reviews, and continuous integration.
- Collaborate with engineers, QA, product managers, designers, and researchers to deliver end-to-end solutions.
- Champion agile practices focused on collaboration, prioritization, urgency, and accountability.
- Research, share, and apply technologies and patterns that improve system quality and accelerate delivery.
