About The Position

As a Senior Software Engineer (Technical Lead) at Bloomerang, you are the senior-most technical engineer on a delivery team and a key driver of the team’s technical success. This is a hands-on role involving code development, solving difficult problems, shaping technical direction, and helping the team consistently deliver high-quality software for nonprofits. The role contributes to defining engineering practices in an AI-first environment. You will explore and apply AI tools and automation to improve software development workflows, increase team leverage, and give engineers more time to focus on important problems. You will own your team’s technical outcomes and partner with Product, QA, and Engineering to turn ambiguous problems into practical solutions. You will lead through technical excellence by mentoring engineers, raising engineering standards, and using AI and automation to improve workflows and product quality.

Requirements

  • Strong, recent experience building and shipping production software as a hands-on engineer.
  • Deep proficiency in .NET/C# and TypeScript/Node, with strong experience in React and modern web development.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architecture, SQL, asynchronous programming, automated testing, and production debugging and observability.
  • Ability to make pragmatic architectural decisions that balance scalability, reliability, maintainability, and delivery speed.
  • Experience serving as a senior technical engineer or technical lead on a team and influencing technical direction without formal management authority.
  • Ability to take an ambiguous or moderately scoped problem, develop a technical approach, make sound tradeoffs, and drive implementation and delivery.
  • Strong ownership mindset and concern for the quality, reliability, maintainability, and long-term health of shipped work.
  • Judgment to decide when to act independently and when to seek broader architectural or organizational expertise.
  • Hands-on fluency with AI development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools.
  • Experience using AI in day-to-day engineering work, including coding, debugging, research, code analysis, and problem-solving.
  • Ability to identify ways AI and automation can improve engineering workflows, team leverage, and quality.
  • Curiosity about emerging AI capabilities and willingness to experiment and turn useful practices into repeatable team workflows.
  • Track record of mentoring engineers and raising the technical capability and confidence of colleagues.
  • Ability to communicate technical decisions and tradeoffs clearly with Engineering, Product, QA, and other partners.
  • Continuous-improvement mindset and willingness to challenge existing practices when better ways to build, test, operate, or deliver software are available.
  • Collaborative approach to technical leadership, including driving decisions while seeking input and bringing others along.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with .NET Core.
  • Experience with NestJS and Kafka.
  • Experience with AWS or cloud infrastructure.
  • CRM experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own the team’s technical outcomes and uphold standards for code quality, reliability, maintainability, security, and technical execution.
  • Lead technical direction and design within the team’s domain, translating product and business problems into pragmatic technical solutions and driving implementation.
  • Partner with Staff Engineers and architects on decisions with broader cross-team or cross-product implications.
  • Mentor engineers across experience levels, provide actionable technical feedback, identify growth opportunities, and help engineers develop independent problem-solving skills.
  • Use AI tools in daily development and identify, experiment with, and measure automation opportunities; turn effective approaches into repeatable workflows.
  • Balance product delivery with long-term technical health by identifying and addressing technical debt, architectural risks, performance concerns, and reliability issues.
  • Diagnose complex technical problems using debugging, observability, and system-level knowledge, and improve systems and practices to prevent recurrence.
  • Build quality into the development process through appropriate automated testing, code review, observability, and continuous feedback.
