About The Position

Join our Embedded Payments team as Sr. Software Engineer in Test in Pune, India to make a real impact every day. We say that because we know that every conversation we have, every code line we write and every interface we design is another opportunity for us to elevate everyday life experiences for our customers and the people and communities they serve. Reporting into the Director of Software Engineering, you will help lead the technical direction of our QA engineering function. You're joining a team that already has strong Playwright-based automation in place, owned by our Sr. QA Automation Engineer. Your job is to collaborate on that foundation, bring best engineering practices to the forefront, and help evolve it into something the rest of the team can grow into. This role carries real technical ownership. You will design framework architecture, drive load and async testing capabilities, integrate quality deeply into CI/CD pipelines, and be the person engineering and product turn to when they need to understand risk. You'll work closely with our Sr. QA Automation Engineer, contributing engineering rigor to what's already working while expanding what's possible. Our platform is a cloud-native, event-driven payment orchestration system processing high transaction volumes across multiple clients and acquirers. Load testing and async workflow validation are not edge cases here -- they are core to how we define done.

Requirements

  • 8 years of professional experience in test engineering or software development; Bachelor’s in a technical discipline or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code concepts (Terraform) is a plus.
  • Experience mentoring engineers or QA team members in engineering practices.
  • Strong communicator — able to represent quality risk clearly to engineers, product managers, and engineering leadership.
  • Demonstrated daily habit with AI coding assistants (Copilot, Claude, Cursor, or similar) — and the ability to bring the team along.
  • Experience with test management tooling (Jira, XRay, Zephyr, or similar) and a track record of building test suites that stay meaningful at scale.
  • Ability to reason about distributed system architecture and translate that understanding into test strategy.
  • Deep API testing expertise — RESTful services, contract validation, schema testing, and tooling ownership.
  • Experience owning CI/CD pipeline quality integration — gate configuration, test parallelization, and pipeline reliability.
  • Solid understanding of AWS messaging and eventing primitives: SQS, EventBridge, Lambda — enough to design tests around failure modes, not just happy paths.
  • Strong experience testing async, event-driven systems — asserting on eventual consistency, validating retry and idempotency behavior, and building harnesses that operate independently of the full system.
  • Proven experience designing and owning load and performance testing programs — tooling (k6, JMeter, Artillery, or equivalent), scenario definition, baseline tracking, and engineering feedback loops.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Playwright — framework authorship, architecture decisions, and suite-level optimization.
  • Strong programming fundamentals in Node.js — able to design and build test frameworks, shared libraries, and tooling from scratch, not just author tests within existing ones.

Nice To Haves

  • We are looking for curious and empathetic people.
  • We also love to hear from people who are motivated by meaningful work, resonate with our core values, have a positive outlook, are comfortable with ambiguity and thrive working in an ever-evolving and complex environment.
  • We are inspired by meeting big-picture thinkers and doers, people who can be both tactical and strategic, aim high and put people first in everything they do.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Sr. QA Automation Engineer on test framework architecture -- contributing engineering best practices, evolving shared standards, and helping mature the Playwright suite and shared test infrastructure across the engineering organization.
  • Define and lead the load and performance testing strategy -- scenario design, tooling selection, baseline definition, and translating results into engineering decisions.
  • Build and own test harnesses for async, event-driven workflows -- validating SQS-driven processes, EventBridge patterns, and Lambda invocations where outcomes are eventual rather than immediate.
  • Establish patterns for testing correctness in async financial operations: retry logic, idempotency, dead letter queue handling, and state consistency across distributed service boundaries.
  • Own CI/CD quality gate configuration -- pipeline integration, parallel execution strategy, failure triage, and signal quality (low noise, high defect detection).
  • Drive API and contract testing strategy across services, ensuring integration failures are caught well before production.
  • Build quality observability into the engineering process: coverage trends, flakiness dashboards, test metrics, and regression-to-incident traceability.
  • Collaborate with engineering leads during design and architecture — representing quality risk as a first-class input to technical decisions.
  • Set the standard for AI-assisted test engineering on the team — actively using and evangelizing tools like GitHub Copilot, Claude, or Cursor for test authoring, gap analysis, and triage.
  • Mentor and technically guide QA team members, building SET capability across the function over time.
  • Identify systemic quality gaps and drive engineering-level solutions, not just additional test cases.
