About The Position

CrowdStrike is hiring a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to work across its Core Platform and Embedded Reliability functions. The role combines building foundational libraries, services, and tooling used across product groups with partnering directly with product engineering teams to improve reliability. It is a hands-on engineering position focused on production code, system architecture, and preventing classes of failure, rather than ticket-based operations. The engineer will contribute to architectural and reliability initiatives across CrowdStrike Falcon's large-scale distributed platform, including expanding services to additional cloud providers, modularizing reusable components, improving core libraries and frameworks, strengthening observability, and automating manual work. The position carries organization-wide influence over architecture and shared platform components and includes technical leadership, mentoring, and collaboration across teams. The role is hybrid and requires candidates to be based in Midtown Manhattan, New York; Redmond, Washington; Sunnyvale, California; or Austin, Texas. Employees typically work in the office two to three days per week.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience building and operating distributed systems and service-oriented backends at scale.
  • At least 5 years developing microservices for a SaaS product in a modern backend language such as Go, Java, Scala, Kotlin, Python, or Node.js.
  • Expert-level proficiency in at least one programming language, with expert-level Go proficiency or the ability and willingness to reach it.
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems, including consensus algorithms, replication, consistency models, failure modes, and scalability patterns.
  • Proven experience scaling backend systems, including sharding, partitioning, horizontal scaling, capacity planning, and performance optimization.
  • Deep understanding of multithreading, concurrency, and parallel processing.
  • A track record of making organization-wide architectural decisions and delivering them to production.
  • Strong systems thinking and ability to influence across organizational boundaries without direct authority.
  • Thorough command of engineering best practices, including appropriate testing, effective peer code review, and resilient architecture.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, test-driven, collaborative, and iterative environment.
  • Willingness and enthusiasm to write code and operate software in production.
  • A degree in Computer Science or commensurate experience in data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
  • Proven experience using AI technologies to enhance decision-making, streamline workflows and processes, improve efficiency, and drive business outcomes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience driving reliability improvements in organizations with hundreds or thousands of microservices.
  • Deep knowledge of Kubernetes or other large-scale orchestration systems.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, Cassandra, Kafka, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, or similar large-scale distributed technologies.
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • Experience delivering or operating services across multiple cloud providers, including multi-cloud abstraction layers, portability, and cloud-agnostic tooling.
  • Track record of building internal platforms, developer platforms, or tools used by other engineers.
  • Experience with infrastructure cost optimization at scale.
  • Background in performance engineering, including profiling, optimization, and identifying system bottlenecks.
  • Experience with chaos engineering or resilience testing practices.
  • History of establishing SLO/SLI frameworks and error budgets in production environments.
  • Contributions to the open-source community, such as GitHub, Stack Overflow, or technical blogging.
  • Prior experience in cybersecurity or intelligence.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with engineering leadership across product groups to define and drive multi-year reliability roadmaps.
  • Design and implement architectural improvements to services, libraries, and platforms used across CrowdStrike.
  • Develop and maintain services that meet demanding reliability and scalability requirements.
  • Extend and build libraries for cross-cutting concerns across CrowdStrike's cloud platform.
  • Lead reliability, scalability, performance, and cost-efficiency initiatives for large-scale distributed systems.
  • Establish observability practices, including service instrumentation, signal response, and observability-driven automation.
  • Define and implement service-level objectives and error budgets that guide decisions and prioritization.
  • Lead performance and cost optimization through profiling, bottleneck analysis, capacity planning, and cloud-efficiency improvements.
  • Conduct resilience engineering, including chaos experiments, failure injection, failure modeling, and graceful-degradation design.
  • Design and implement automation and infrastructure-as-code to improve reliability and eliminate manual work.
  • Provide technical leadership during complex incidents and ensure retrospectives result in concrete improvements that prevent recurring failures.
  • Identify common patterns that can be extracted into shared libraries and tools, or partner with platform teams on broader improvements.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve product architecture, knowledge models, developer and user experience, performance, and stability.
  • Drive strategic technical decisions and influence infrastructure and operational improvements across the organization.
  • Mentor and coach engineers, raising technical capability and advancing architectural standards.
  • Contribute to and promote the open-source community and software engineering best practices, especially in Go.
  • Collaborate across teams to define and build solutions, taking ownership and accountability for deliverables.
