Sr. Services Manager

SK battery AmericaTroy, MI

About The Position

SK On, a proud member of SK Group, the second largest conglomerate with a revenue size of $150 billion, is one of the fastest growing battery manufacturers globally. With ambitious plans to reach over 180GWh manufacturing capacity in the US, SK On is at the forefront of innovation in the energy storage sector. In response to the increasing domestic demand, SK On is set to manufacture state-of-the-art 5.3MWh DC Blocks, fully compliant with the latest US domestic content requirements and eligible for full ITC benefits. Additionally, SK On has contracted and awarded projects totaling 7GWh to be installed in the US starting in 2026. We are seeking a highly analytical and disciplined BESS Service Manager to lead our field service operations, oversee quality assurance, and manage the financial lifecycle of our Long-Term Service Agreements (LTSA). Reporting directly to the Direct - LTSA & Service Operations, you will execute the post-commissioning service strategy. You will manage a team of field technicians, enforce rigorous problem-solving methodologies, and build LTSA cost models to ensure profitability while meeting strict performance guarantees for our grid-scale commitments.

Requirements

  • 5-7+ Years of experience in a service, operations, or technical management role within the BESS, Renewable Energy, or Power Generation sectors
  • Proven experience building and managing financial models (specifically LTSA, O&M cost modeling, or lifecycle cost analysis) for complex energy assets.
  • Hands-on experience executing formal problem-solving frameworks (8D, 5-Whys, Ishikawa) and operating within strict Quality Management Systems (QMS)
  • Deep understanding of BESS architecture, grid-tied electrical components, and compliance standards (NFPA 855)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage remote teams of technicians and coordinate effectively with third-party O&M providers in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive cost models for Long-Term Service Agreements, tracking actual service costs and warranty spend against executive dashboards.
  • Support the Director in analyzing operational data to mitigate "cliff" risks associated with Energy Capacity (Degradation), Round-Trip Efficiency (RTE), and System Availability guarantees.
  • Understand the operational requirements necessary to maintain asset eligibility for full ITC benefits, SGIP incentive rates, and SRECs, ensuring system downtime does not negatively impact project economics.
  • Manage and scale a multi-disciplinary team of internal and external field technicians.
  • Optimize technician deployment and dispatch strategies to meet strict Availability timelines and minimize Liquidated Damages (LDs).
  • Implement the Service Kick-Off (SKO) process to ensure a seamless handoff from EPC contractors and the construction/commissioning phase into the long-term service phase.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex on-site technical issues, guiding technicians through advanced troubleshooting of battery racks, inverters, 3 phase meters, and site controllers.
  • Execute a highly disciplined approach to field issues by leading investigations using industry-standard methodologies such as 8D, Fishbone (Ishikawa), and 5-Whys.
  • Consolidate field data and failure metrics to feed back to the R&D and Manufacturing teams, targeting the elimination of recurring failure modes in cell and module designs.
  • Ensure all field operations and third-party O&M providers strictly adhere to electrical safety standards, particularly NFPA 855 for Stationary Energy Storage Systems, OSHA requirements, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
