About The Position

Reporting to the QA/QC Manager, the Senior QA/QC Specialist serves as an advanced quality professional responsible for independently leading the planning, coordination, execution, and documentation of quality requirements across multiple or complex Industrial projects. This position helps ensure work is completed in accordance with Baker Group's Quality Management System (QMS), contract requirements, client specifications, approved drawings, and applicable industry codes and standards. The Senior QA/QC Specialist provides project-level technical leadership, identifies and addresses quality risk, leads quality reviews and corrective-action workflows, and supports timely project closeout. The role also mentors QA/QC Specialist I and II team members, trains project personnel, and recommends improvements to departmental processes while the QA/QC Manager retains responsibility for department strategy, personnel management, and final program governance.

Requirements

Associate degree in construction, engineering technology, quality, welding, fabrication, or a related field with at least seven years of progressively responsible experience in industrial construction, fabrication, quality, or project execution; or a bachelor's degree in a related field with at least five years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
Demonstrated experience independently planning and executing project QA/QC activities, including ITPs, inspections, audits, quality records, NCRs, corrective actions, and project turnover.
Working knowledge of industrial construction and fabrication practices and the ability to interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, procedures, submittals, and applicable codes and standards.
Experience coordinating quality requirements across multiple disciplines such as civil/structural, mechanical equipment, piping/welding, electrical/instrumentation, and paint/coatings.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, to analyze, evaluate, document, and present quality-related information.
Working knowledge of project management, quality, or fabrication software such as Procore, Stratus, or similar systems.
Demonstrated ability to mentor others, lead cross-functional quality activities, and communicate professionally with clients, coworkers, subcontractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders.
Advanced attention to detail and the ability to compare drawings, specifications, submittals, procedures, materials, and installations to identify discrepancies and compliance risks.
Ability to interpret complex quality and contractual requirements and translate them into practical project plans, inspections, records, and follow-up actions.
Strong analytical, root-cause, risk-evaluation, and problem-solving skills with sound professional judgment regarding escalation and corrective action.
Strong leadership, coaching, organization, time management, and written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to influence work across project teams without direct supervisory authority and to maintain productive relationships in challenging situations.
Ability to manage multiple projects, workflows, deadlines, and shifting priorities while maintaining accurate and complete records.
Proficiency with computer software and the ability to learn and help others use new systems.
Ability to work effectively in office, fabrication, and active construction-site environments.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift 10 pounds occasionally.
Significant field and client interaction on construction job sites, which may require prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and/or climbing stairs.
Occasional exposure to a variety of temperatures, weather conditions, noise levels, and active construction or fabrication environments.
Required use of appropriate personal protective equipment and compliance with site-specific safety requirements.

Nice To Haves

Relevant quality or inspection certification - such as AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), ASQ certification, or AMPP/NACE coating certification - is preferred when applicable to assigned work.

Responsibilities

Serve as the senior QA/QC point of contact for assigned complex, high-risk, or multi-discipline Industrial projects.
Review prime contracts, client quality requirements, project specifications, approved drawings, submittals, and applicable codes to identify quality obligations, risks, hold points, witness points, and required records.
Develop, review, and maintain project-specific Project Quality Plans, quality execution requirements, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and Inspection Test Reports (ITRs) in collaboration with the QA/QC Manager and project team.
Independently lead QA/QC kickoff meetings and recurring quality reviews to communicate requirements, inspection points, responsibilities, documentation standards, and closeout expectations.
Own assigned ITP workflows in Procore, including action plans, inspection coordination, status tracking, documentation review, approvals, and escalation of overdue or incomplete items.
Lead inspection planning and look-ahead activities to confirm personnel, procedures, materials, documentation, and third-party resources are ready before work begins.
Coordinate and participate in field and shop inspections, audits, surveillance activities, and quality reviews; document findings and verify timely resolution.
Lead the identification, documentation, evaluation, and tracking of non-conformance reports (NCRs), including containment, root-cause evaluation, corrective and preventive actions, disposition approval, and closure under the governance of the QA/QC Manager.
Recognize significant or recurring quality risks and promptly escalate matters that may affect safety, compliance, schedule, cost, client acceptance, or contractual obligations.
Coordinate quality requirements with project management, project controls, engineering, procurement, receiving, fabrication, field supervision, subcontractors, and the Shop QA/QC department.
Work with subcontractors and project teams to verify required tests, inspections, checks, qualifications, and supporting records are completed in accordance with contract and project requirements.
Review, evaluate, and validate material documentation, including Material Test Reports (MTRs), certificates of conformance, receiving records, and material traceability data in Stratus.
Support integration of shop quality activities into project requirements, including nondestructive examination (NDE), weld tracking, welder qualifications and continuity, testing, and turnover documentation, as applicable.
Maintain control of project quality records, including organization, version control, traceability, completeness, retention, and final turnover package assembly.
Lead quality closeout reviews and coordinate resolution of documentation gaps so turnover packages meet project, client, code, and contractual requirements.
Analyze QA/QC records and performance data to identify trends, recurring issues, process gaps, and improvement opportunities; prepare clear summaries and recommendations for the QA/QC Manager and project leadership.
Develop, update, and standardize assigned QA/QC procedures, templates, checklists, workflows, and reporting tools in alignment with the Industrial QMS.
Train project and field personnel assigned quality responsibilities on inspection documentation, procedures, testing, field observations, reporting, and software use.
Mentor QA/QC Specialist I and II team members, review work products, provide technical guidance, and support consistent application of quality standards across projects.
Support internal, client, and third-party audits, including preparation, participation, response development, evidence collection, and corrective-action follow-through.
Represent project quality matters in client, owner, subcontractor, and internal meetings within assigned authority; elevate policy, personnel, or contractual decisions to the QA/QC Manager.
Provide feedback to the QA/QC Manager regarding workload, project risk, team development needs, and priorities across the Industrial project portfolio.
Travel to project sites, fabrication facilities, and client locations as required to support quality planning, inspections, audits, issue resolution, and program implementation.
