We're seeking a detail-oriented, mechanically skilled QA/QC Specialist to support the Austin Energy Multifamily Energy Efficiency Program. You'll serve as a local, on-site representative working directly with multifamily properties to verify the quality, performance, and compliance of energy efficiency improvements — with a strong focus on HVAC systems. This role is based in Austin, TX. Travel is local but can run 30% or more and may occasionally involve overnight travel. A company vehicle may be provided for fieldwork.

Requirements

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred to support diverse communities
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with HVAC experience required (1+ year preferred)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and reporting tools
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality standards
  • Must be 21+ with a valid driver's license
  • Safely operate a vehicle for local travel within the Austin area
  • Safety-sensitive, field-based role requiring work at customer properties/job sites
  • Must pass post-offer drug screen and MVR check; ongoing clean driving record required
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the country of the position without employer sponsorship.
  • Pre-employment checks required.

Nice To Haves

  • BPI Certification preferred (not required)
  • EPA Universal Certification a plus
  • Experience in multifamily, residential, or light commercial EE programs highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Perform QA inspections and audits on multifamily energy efficiency upgrades, with an HVAC focus
  • Conduct pre- and post-installation inspections to verify proper installation and performance
  • Evaluate HVAC maintenance tune-ups and system upgrades for compliance, safety, and efficiency
  • Inspect lighting systems, controls, and mechanical components for program compliance
  • Measure airflow and system performance using diagnostic equipment
  • Operate and test HVAC equipment to confirm functionality and identify improvement opportunities
  • Document and report findings clearly to internal program teams
  • Represent Austin Energy professionally in the field, maintaining strong customer interaction
