About The Position

Tempus AI is a clinical laboratory with automation capabilities focused on delivering quality results to patients quickly. The Senior QA Engineer will embed with one or more Agile Scrum teams to validate and continuously improve in-house-developed software. This hands-on engineering role involves designing and maintaining UI, API, and data-validation test frameworks in Java and Python and integrating them into CI/CD pipelines so tests run unattended against every build. The role offers exposure to modern test tooling, cloud-native delivery, and AI-assisted testing. Knowledge of genetic testing, molecular biology, or another scientific discipline is a plus but is not required.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of software QA experience, including at least 5 years writing test automation.
  • Strong programming ability in at least one automation language; Java and/or Python preferred.
  • Hands-on UI automation experience with Playwright or Selenium.
  • API testing experience with REST Assured, Postman, or similar, including schema, contract, and authentication checks.
  • Experience running tests in CI/CD systems such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab CI, with reporting tools such as Allure.
  • Solid SQL skills, such as MySQL, and a careful approach to regulated test data.
  • Experience with performance and load testing tools such as JMeter, k6, or Gatling.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA, HL7, and FHIR.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • ISTQB/ASTQB certification.
  • Experience with AWS (ECS/Fargate, Lambda, S3) or Azure, and Docker.
  • Experience in a regulated environment such as a CLIA/CAP lab, FDA, or SOX.
  • Knowledge of genetic testing, molecular biology, or another scientific discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies, including backlog grooming, sprint planning, and retrospectives, representing quality and testability from the start of each story.
  • Build and maintain automated tests for web UI, REST APIs, and databases, holding test code to the same standards as production code.
  • Own application regression suites by expanding coverage, addressing flaky tests, and keeping suites running in CI/CD after every deployment and nightly.
  • Test for HIPAA and SOX compliance, including PHI handling, access controls, and logging, and keep tests traceable to requirements.
  • Analyze test results and triage failures, distinguish product defects from environment, data, or test-harness issues, identify root causes, and drive resolution with clear, reproducible bug reports.
  • Validate scheduled nighttime and off-hours deployments and confirm post-deployment health in lower and production environments.
  • Participate in risk assessments, validation processes, and release-readiness reviews, providing evidence-based go/no-go quality recommendations.
  • Maintain traceability from requirements and specifications through test cases to results, especially for regulated components.
  • Apply AI-assisted tooling responsibly to accelerate test authoring, failure triage, and coverage analysis while remaining accountable for test correctness.
  • Mentor junior QA engineers through pairing and code review, and help internal users troubleshoot when needed.
