About The Position

Tempus AI is a clinical laboratory with automation capabilities that aims to deliver quality results to patients quickly. The Senior QA Engineer will work hands-on with one or more Agile Scrum teams to validate and continuously improve internally developed software. The role involves designing and maintaining UI, API, and data-validation test frameworks in Java and Python and integrating them into CI/CD pipelines so they run automatically against builds. The position offers exposure to modern testing tools, cloud-native delivery, and AI-assisted testing. Knowledge of genetic testing, molecular biology, or other scientific disciplines is a plus but not required. The employer describes a positive, creative work environment with benefits and growth opportunities.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of software QA experience, including at least 5 years writing test automation.
  • Strong programming ability in at least one automation language; Java and/or Python preferred.
  • Hands-on UI automation experience with Playwright or Selenium.
  • API testing experience with REST Assured, Postman, or similar, including schema, contract, and authentication checks.
  • Experience running tests in CI/CD systems such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab CI, with reporting such as Allure.
  • Solid SQL skills, such as MySQL, and a careful approach to test data when it is regulated.
  • Experience with performance and load testing using tools such as JMeter, k6, or Gatling.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA, HL7, and FHIR.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • ISTQB/ASTQB certification.
  • Experience with AWS (ECS/Fargate, Lambda, S3) or Azure, and Docker.
  • Experience in a regulated environment such as a CLIA/CAP lab, FDA, or SOX.
  • Knowledge of genetic testing, molecular biology, or other scientific disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies, including backlog grooming, sprint planning, and retrospectives, representing quality and testability from the beginning of each story.
  • Build and maintain automated tests for web UI, REST APIs, and databases, applying production-code standards to test code.
  • Own application regression suites by expanding coverage, addressing or removing flaky tests, and keeping suites running in CI/CD after deployments and nightly.
  • Test HIPAA and SOX compliance, including PHI handling, access controls, and logging, and maintain traceability to requirements.
  • Analyze and triage test failures, distinguish product defects from environment, data, and test-harness issues, identify root causes, and drive resolution through clear, reproducible bug reports.
  • Validate scheduled nighttime and off-hours deployments and confirm post-deployment health in lower and production environments.
  • Participate in risk assessments, validation processes, and release readiness reviews, providing an evidence-based go/no-go quality recommendation.
  • Maintain traceability from requirements and specifications through test cases to results, especially for regulated components.
  • Use AI-assisted tooling responsibly to accelerate test authoring, failure triage, and coverage analysis while remaining accountable for test correctness.
  • Mentor junior QA engineers through pairing and code review, and help internal users troubleshoot when needed.

Benefits

  • The posting states that the work environment offers great benefits and opportunities for growth, but does not specify individual benefits.
