Sr. Product UI/Visual Designer - FO Applications

Clearwater Analytics•New York, NY
•$156,400 - $210,841

About The Position

The Senior Product UI/Visual Designer will turn wireframes, low-fidelity schematics, and rough AI-generated prototypes into polished, production-ready visual designs for front-office products used at hedge funds and asset management firms. These data-dense, highly transactional products include trading systems, trading idea and research management systems, and risk management systems for traders, portfolio managers, and analysts. The designer will apply the CWAN Design System and make sound visual decisions when early-stage designs are ambiguous or incomplete. Alongside project work, the designer will partner with the CWAN Design System team to identify gaps, propose and define new or updated standards, and contribute reusable components, patterns, tokens, and documentation. The role collaborates with product designers, product managers, and engineers to maintain visual quality from concept through implementation, and produces developer-ready Figma files with specifications, redlines, and component usage guidance.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in product/UI visual design.
  • A portfolio demonstrating strong visual craft in typography, layout, color, and hierarchy applied to real product interfaces.
  • Experience designing financial services software, including trading systems, trading idea or research management systems, or risk management systems for front-office users at hedge funds or asset management firms.
  • Ability to elevate low-fidelity wireframes, sketches, or AI-generated concepts into refined, standards-compliant visual designs.
  • Deep fluency in Figma, including components, variants, auto layout, and design tokens or variables.
  • Working knowledge of design systems, including how components, tokens, and documentation fit together and how design decisions scale across a product.
  • Strong visual consistency skills and judgment about when a pattern merits a system-level standard versus a one-off exception.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, including presenting and defending design decisions to designers, product managers, and engineers.
  • Ability to design for dense, data-heavy professional workflows where information hierarchy, precision, and speed of comprehension are important.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience contributing to a formal design system or component library.
  • Familiarity with evaluating or refining AI-generated UI output as a design input.
  • Front-end literacy, including HTML/CSS fundamentals, sufficient for informed conversations with engineers about implementation.
  • Experience with motion or interaction design for UI components.

Responsibilities

  • Translate wireframes, low-fidelity schematics, and rough AI-generated prototypes into high-fidelity, production-ready visual designs.
  • Apply existing visual standards for typography, color, spacing, iconography, elevation, and layout grids across product screens.
  • Resolve ambiguity, incompleteness, or visual inconsistency in source designs through independent design judgment.
  • Prepare polished, developer-ready Figma files with clear specifications, redlines, and component usage guidance.
  • Collaborate with product designers, product managers, and engineers to review work and maintain visual quality through delivery.
  • Work with the CWAN Design System team to identify gaps in existing standards for new patterns, components, or use cases.
  • Propose new or updated visual standards, including components, tokens, patterns, and documentation, based on recurring project needs.
  • Create reusable, system-ready component and pattern designs rather than only one-off screen solutions.
  • Document the rationale and usage guidance for new standards.
  • Participate in design system reviews by giving and incorporating feedback.
  • Help audit product surfaces for deviations from current design standards.

Benefits

  • Competitive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance benefits.
