About The Position

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Principal Data Insight Analyst or Senior Principal Data Insight Analyst to modernize and help lead a large, business-critical analytics and data solution supporting F-35 material cost estimating for a multi-year procurement proposal. The current environment includes Power BI and related Microsoft data technologies, and the selected candidate will help evaluate and implement the architecture, platforms, and engineering practices best suited to long-term business needs. The position is 100% onsite in Redondo Beach, California. No relocation assistance is available. The role requires travel 10% of the time. The candidate must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs. The role involves technical leadership in analytics engineering, modernization, data integration, modeling, and governed deployment practices. The successful candidate will partner primarily with F-35 material estimators, with cross-functional support from Global Supply Chain, Pricing, Scheduling, Finance, and technical teams. The role may be filled at the Principal or Senior Principal level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data/Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Business, or Finance with 8 years of experience; or a master’s degree in one of these fields with 6 years of experience; or a Ph.D. in one of these fields with 4 years of experience.
  • Advanced experience designing, developing, and optimizing complex enterprise analytics solutions using Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, Azure data services, SQL-based platforms, data lakes, lake houses, or comparable business-intelligence and analytics technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience modernizing a large or technically complex analytics solution while maintaining continuity for active business operations.
  • Strong SQL skills, including developing and optimizing complex queries, transformations, views, stored procedures, and data-validation logic against large datasets.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of dimensional modeling, star schemas, data granularity, slowly changing dimensions, aggregation strategies, data lineage, and semantic-layer design.
  • Experience diagnosing and correcting model-capacity, memory-consumption, query-performance, refresh-reliability, or dataset-size problems.
  • Experience integrating multiple structured data sources into repeatable analytics pipelines and reconciling results to authoritative sources.
  • Experience implementing data-quality checks, testing, version control, documentation, and controlled deployment practices for production analytical products.
  • Ability to lead the translation of complex business requirements into technical designs, analytical models, and actionable insights, and to communicate architecture and trade-offs to stakeholders and technical teams.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including analysis of large datasets and use of Power Query, pivot tables, and other advanced functions.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Power BI, DAX, Power Query/M, semantic models, relationships, security, refresh design, performance tuning, deployment pipelines, gateways, capacity administration, XMLA endpoints, Tabular Editor, DAX Studio, Performance Analyzer, or comparable model-development and diagnostic tools.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure data services, SQL Server, dataflows, data lakes, lake houses, or other modern analytics platforms.
  • Experience using Python, PowerShell, C#, VBA, or similar technologies to automate data processing, validation, testing, or administrative tasks.
  • Experience with Git and Azure DevOps or comparable source-control, work-management, code-review, and CI/CD platforms.
  • Experience developing row-level or object-level security, governed datasets, certified semantic models, and reusable self-service analytics capabilities.
  • Experience applying Agile methods to analytics-product development and managing modernization work through incremental, testable releases.
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce innovative data-modeling and analytics approaches while balancing schedule, usability, governance, and business continuity.
  • Experience supporting aerospace and defense programs, government contracting, Global Supply Chain, material cost estimating, pricing, or procurement.
  • Knowledge of FAR Part 15, applicable DFARS requirements, and compliant proposal estimates and supporting documentation.
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA data, supplier proposals and quotes, PCARs, LTAs, purchase-order actuals and history, BOMs/CBOMs, demand, and Basis of Estimate details.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the current analytics implementation, document data lineage and dependencies, identify technical debt and failure points, and contribute to or lead a phased modernization roadmap that sustains active estimating operations.
  • Design, build, and optimize scalable analytical data products, including semantic models, data pipelines, governed datasets, calculations, reports, and decision-support capabilities.
  • Diagnose and resolve capacity, memory, refresh, query-performance, reliability, and data-volume issues through architecture improvements, data reduction, efficient transformation patterns, and model redesign.
  • Evaluate the current technology stack and recommend appropriate tools and architecture based on scalability, maintainability, security, performance, governance, and business continuity.
  • Develop, refactor, and optimize complex analytical calculations and data transformations while removing brittle workarounds and unnecessary solution complexity.
  • Design and maintain repeatable SQL-based data-integration and ETL processes to ingest, transform, reconcile, and publish data from enterprise and estimating sources.
  • Create governed model definitions, naming conventions, calculation standards, source-to-target mappings, and technical documentation; support controlled change processes.
  • Apply source control, peer review, testing, deployment, release-management, and rollback practices to analytics models, SQL, Python, and supporting automation artifacts.
  • Partner primarily with F-35 material estimators and collaborate with Global Supply Chain, Pricing, Scheduling, Finance, and technical teams to translate business requirements into durable analytical capabilities.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership appropriate to the selected level, participate in code and model reviews, mentor analysts and developers, and promote sustainable analytics-engineering practices across the department.
