About The Position

At Medtronic, a global healthcare technology leader with over 95,000 employees, the Neurovascular operating unit focuses on advancing care for complex neurological and spinal conditions, specifically treating stroke, brain aneurysms, and vascular disorders through innovative endovascular technologies. The company is seeking a Senior Principal Communications Specialist to manage communications operations for its $1.2B global Neurovascular business. This role reports to the head of Communications for Neurovascular and is crucial for connecting, engaging, and inspiring the global workforce and key external stakeholders. The specialist will drive understanding, alignment, and action around business priorities, company culture, and strategic initiatives. Medtronic emphasizes in-person collaboration, requiring employees to work a minimum of 4 days a week onsite to foster professional growth and cross-functional teamwork. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of experience in internal or corporate communications, including experience advising senior leaders.
  • Proven ability to lead strategic communication programs with measurable impact.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills tailored for a variety of internal audiences.
  • Experience working in a matrixed or global organization.
  • Healthcare, medical technology, or manufacturing industry experience.
  • Expertise in change communication and organizational transformation.
  • Experience with intranet platforms (e.g., SharePoint), internal social tools, and enterprise communication analytics.

  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement internal communication strategies that align with organizational goals, support business transformation, and foster employee engagement.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to business leaders, helping shape messaging for high-visibility initiatives, change management, executive communications, and organizational updates.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure message consistency and alignment across teams; and serve as a strategic business partner to key functions.
  • Support the development of executive communications, including strong planning, verbal, video and written communications.
  • Engage with external stakeholders to manage communications and participate in media activities, conferences, congresses, award submissions, and similar events.
  • Create compelling content across multiple channels—email, intranet, video, events, presentations, and town halls—to reach diverse internal audiences effectively.
  • Lead key initiatives that reinforce company values, celebrate employee contributions, and enhance transparency and trust across the organization.
  • Measure impact of communication efforts through feedback, analytics, and engagement metrics; use data to inform strategy and continuous improvement.
  • Look for and leverage opportunities to improve processes and best practices to drive efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Work effectively in a global, matrixed environment, demonstrating a willingness to seek additional perspectives and inputs while driving projects with speed and urgency.
  • Serve as a strategic ‘finger on the pulse’ contact for culture and engagement at Irvine site; partner with HR and other functions as needed to measure and monitor engagement.
  • Champion inclusive communication practices to ensure messaging is accessible, clear, and representative of Medtronic’s diverse global workforce.
  • Build strong relationships and collaborate with colleagues across Global Communications & Corporate Marketing (GCCM) to ensure the right stakeholders are engaged and resources are partnered with to deliver the greatest impact for the business.
