About The Position

At Venable, we are looking for a Senior Pricing Analyst to lead complex pricing initiatives, deliver strategic financial insights, and help shape pricing strategies that drive profitability, competitive positioning, and exceptional client service. This role involves developing strategic pricing proposals, budgets, and alternative fee arrangements, building sophisticated pricing models, advising leadership on pricing strategies, conducting market benchmarking, and developing analytical insights. The ideal candidate will also serve as a subject matter resource on pricing policies and best practices, and deliver training to strengthen pricing discipline throughout the firm.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four or more years of experience in pricing, financial analysis, budgeting, proposal modeling, or profitability management, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Expert-level Excel and financial modeling skills, including advanced functions, large data analysis, and complex scenario modeling.
  • Proven ability to translate complex financial information into actionable business recommendations for attorneys and leadership.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with experience influencing stakeholders across multiple business functions.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple complex projects while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and professionalism.
  • Experience with pricing, budgeting, business intelligence, benchmarking, and reporting tools; legal industry pricing experience strongly preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, with expert-level Excel skills (e.g., XLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH, pivot tables, Power Query and/or advanced modeling).
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing budgets, reporting, and modeling for proposals and/or ongoing engagements.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to translate complex data into clear recommendations for attorneys and business stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present findings.
  • Ability to manage multiple deliverables in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality work product.
  • High degree of discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality regarding firm and client financial matters.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Aderant products.
  • Exposure to Iridium Pricing/Budgeting and/or Financial Dashboard tools.
  • Experience using data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI).
  • Experience with Information Builders and SQL Server Reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the development of strategic pricing proposals, budgets, and alternative fee arrangements for client pitches, RFPs, and complex matters.
  • Building sophisticated pricing models and profitability analyses to evaluate staffing leverage, realization, fee structures, and revenue opportunities.
  • Advising attorneys and firm leadership on pricing strategies, assumptions, risks, approval requirements, and alternative fee structures.
  • Conducting competitive market benchmarking and rate analyses to support pricing strategy, proposal positioning, and rate-setting decisions.
  • Developing reporting and analytical insights that identify trends, profitability drivers, risks, and opportunities across clients, matters, and practices.
  • Serving as a subject matter resource on pricing policies, governance, approval processes, and pricing best practices.
  • Delivering training, educational materials, and strategic guidance that strengthen pricing discipline and profitability awareness throughout the firm.
