About The Position

The Sr Planner, Transportation Planning leads multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex transportation planning projects, ensuring innovative solutions that move people and goods across diverse settings. The ideal candidate would also have experience in preparing federal environmental documents for transportation projects. This role drives business development, manages client relationships, and mentors early career staff, directly contributing to the company’s growth and reputation for excellence in infrastructure planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in transportation, urban planning, civil engineering, or related field from an accredited program.
  • At least 10 years of experience in multimodal transportation planning/urban design and/or federal environmental documentation.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Microsoft Suite Products (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in transportation, urban planning, civil engineering, or related field from an accredited program.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct business development to secure new clients and projects.
  • Retain and manage relationships with existing clients and external stakeholders.
  • Respond to RFPs and build teams internally and with partner firms.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams on complex transportation planning projects, managing multiple projects, and teams on time-sensitive schedules.
  • Develop solutions for moving people and goods by various modes (car, bus, train, bicycle, foot) in rural, suburban, and urban contexts.
  • Solve complex transportation problems using professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Apply transportation methods, planning principles, and standard industry evaluations and analyses.
  • Develop and implement stakeholder, agency, and partner engagement and communication strategies.
  • Prepare deliverables such as reports, memos, technical analyses, engagement content, visions and goals, policies, implementation and phasing plans, and other client-identified items.
  • Lead or oversee multidisciplinary teams in preparing grant applications and provide guidance on relevant funding resources for projects.
  • Develop content and strategy for federal environmental documents for transportation projects. This includes preparing purpose and need statements, developing and refining evaluating criteria, and conducting alternatives analyses.
  • Mentor and train early career staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
