Sr. Microprocessor Verification Engineer

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc•Fishkill, NY
•Onsite

About The Position

AMD is seeking a hands-on Senior Verification Engineer to work on high-performance microprocessor designs. The role spans block-level verification through full-chip integration and involves shaping technical strategy, solving complex verification problems, and setting a high quality bar through technical expertise and example. The engineer will build chip-scale verification infrastructure, develop architectural tests, drive regressions and defect convergence to tape-out standards, and contribute to technical reviews and readiness assessments. The role also includes identifying and communicating verification risks, developing automation, collaborating across engineering disciplines and sites, and mentoring colleagues. The position is on-site in Fishkill, New York, or Fort Collins, Colorado. Relocation assistance is available. The role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Extensive functional verification experience on high-performance microprocessors or complex ASIC/SoC designs.
  • Expert C++ programming skills and experience building production-quality verification software.
  • Deep experience with C++-based verification, including behavioral and reference models, checkers, and large-scale simulation infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of computer architecture, including out-of-order processor pipelines, memory hierarchy, and superscalar execution.
  • A track record of driving programs through tape-out with clean metrics.
  • Ability to influence technical direction and build alignment across teams without formal authority.
  • Programming proficiency in x86 assembly, C/C++, Perl, Python, and Ruby.
  • Experience with Verilog HDL and SystemVerilog, along with a solid understanding of computer architecture.
  • BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing reference models or behavioral models for microprocessor execution units.
  • Knowledge of floating-point mathematics and experience working on a floating-point execution unit.
  • Experience applying formal verification to correctness properties in complex control and datapath logic.
  • Prior experience verifying multi-die or chiplet-based processor architectures.
  • Experience at a leading semiconductor company on x86 or ARM processor programs.

Responsibilities

  • Own functional verification of high-performance microprocessor designs from block level through full-chip integration.
  • Design and build verification infrastructure, including behavioral reference models, transaction-level checkers, scoreboards, and simulation frameworks for chip-scale operation.
  • Write advanced C and assembly test programs to identify architectural corner cases.
  • Drive regression quality and defect convergence to tape-out standards, including 99%+ pass rates, clean coverage, and a well-managed bug backlog.
  • Serve as a technical authority in architecture reviews, coverage closure meetings, and tape-out readiness assessments.
  • Identify verification risks early, communicate them to design and program teams, and provide mitigation plans.
  • Share knowledge through code reviews, design discussions, and mentorship.
  • Build tools and automation to improve team velocity and verification confidence across active programs.
  • Collaborate with RTL, DFT, physical design, and architecture teams at multiple sites to keep verification aligned with design.

Benefits

  • Relocation assistance available.
  • AMD benefits are referenced as available in “AMD benefits at a glance,” but specific benefits are not listed.
