About The Position

The Senior Manager, IT Portfolio Management (PMO) is responsible for leading the IT organization's Project Management Office (PMO) and overseeing a portfolio of strategic technology initiatives that support business growth, operational excellence, and digital transformation. This role provides leadership, governance, financial oversight, resource planning, and delivery management across multiple enterprise programs and projects. A key focus of this role is establishing and standardizing project governance, methodologies, reporting, and portfolio management tools across the organization. This individual will drive portfolio prioritization, project execution, and PMO maturity while ensuring technology investments align with strategic objectives and deliver measurable business value.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in IT project management, program management, portfolio management, or PMO leadership roles.
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience managing Project Managers or PMO teams.
  • Experience leading an enterprise PMO and managing complex portfolios of concurrent projects and programs.
  • Demonstrated success overseeing large-scale technology and business transformation initiatives.
  • Experience managing multimillion-dollar project portfolios and budgets.
  • Strong experience with executive-level governance, portfolio reporting, and strategic planning.
  • Proven success managing vendors, negotiating contracts, and overseeing third-party delivery partners.

Nice To Haves

  • PMP, PgMP, PfMP, PMI-ACP, or equivalent project management certification.
  • MBA or Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience establishing PMO standards in organizations with evolving project management capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Agile, Waterfall, and Hybrid delivery methodologies.
  • Prosci or equivalent organizational change management certification.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the enterprise PMO and oversee a portfolio of strategic business and technology initiatives.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of Program and Project Managers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and delivery excellence.
  • Establish portfolio governance processes, standards, methodologies, and performance metrics.
  • Drive portfolio prioritization and investment decisions in partnership with executive leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure alignment of technology investments with business strategy and organizational objectives.
  • Facilitate portfolio reviews, steering committees, and executive governance forums.
  • Provide end-to-end oversight of enterprise programs and projects, ensuring successful delivery within scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
  • Monitor project health, resource utilization, dependencies, risks, and issue resolution across the portfolio.
  • Serve as an escalation point for critical project challenges and delivery risks.
  • Ensure consistent project management practices are implemented across all initiatives.
  • Ensure project compliance with internal controls, enterprise architecture standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Prioritize and manage intake for new and ongoing initiatives.
  • Maintain PMO metrics and dashboards to track progress, benefits realization, risks, and dependencies.
  • Continuously evaluate projects to ensure they are meeting PMO standards, adhering to budgets and meeting deadlines.
  • Lead the intake process for project requests, works with sponsors, stakeholders, and IT managers to ensure business cases are properly documented, prioritized, and meet project standards and practices.
  • Lead and oversee large-scale business and technology transformation initiatives, including: Various implementation projects, Business process automation initiatives, Digital transformation and process improvement programs.
  • Partner with business leaders to develop execution strategies and drive successful organizational change.
  • Manage and oversee the technology project portfolio budget.
  • Develop capital and operating budget forecasts and monitor portfolio financial performance.
  • Evaluate business cases, investment opportunities, project costs, and expected returns.
  • Collaborate with IT and business leaders to align resource demand with organizational capacity.
  • Assess current project management practices and implement scalable PMO processes, standards, and governance frameworks.
  • Lead the evaluation, selection, and standardization of portfolio and project management tools across the organization.
  • Establish consistent reporting, dashboarding, and project lifecycle management practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts to increase PMO effectiveness and portfolio visibility.
  • Create a mature PMO operating model capable of supporting long-term strategic growth.
  • Build strong relationships with executive leadership, business stakeholders, and technology teams.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders regarding project prioritization, delivery strategy, and portfolio health.
  • Lead vendor evaluations and management of strategic technology partners.
  • Present portfolio performance, risks, recommendations, and investment strategies to senior leadership.
