Sr Mechanical Engineer
About The Position
As a Sr Mechanical Engineer with JLG, an Oshkosh company, you will support and enhance the boom lift product portfolio through sustaining engineering and incremental product development. The role involves mechanical component and system design, engineering analysis, root cause investigations, and product enhancements. You will work with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Product Management, Manufacturing, and Compliance teams, along with external suppliers, to improve product performance, reliability, functionality, and customer satisfaction throughout the product lifecycle. You will take ownership of assigned projects or portions of projects of limited complexity, develop engineering solutions, support production, and prepare technical documentation and recommendations. The role requires regular onsite attendance.
Requirements
- Accredited bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Three or more years of related experience.
Nice To Haves
- Accredited bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Mechanical knowledge of automotive or heavy-equipment design and related systems, such as fabrications, powertrain, drivetrain, hydraulics, electrical, controls, or reliability.
- Experience with a high-level CAD system such as Creo Parametric, Catia, or NX.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and/or hands-on engineering experience.
- Familiarity with the construction industry and trades involved in commercial building projects.
- Strong organizational skills and exposure to project management best practices.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Product Management, and Compliance teams to support business continuity, product improvements, and customer satisfaction.
- Perform engineering calculations, investigations, and technical analysis in accordance with company and industry standards and processes.
- Support experienced engineers in developing engineering plans, designs, calculations, and technical reports.
- Take ownership of assigned engineering projects or portions of projects of limited complexity while managing multiple priorities.
- Partner with internal engineering and business teams and external suppliers to develop and implement engineering solutions.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to entry-level engineers, designers, and technicians on common projects.
- Communicate with suppliers, customers, and other resources to resolve technical challenges.
- Ensure designs and engineering activities follow engineering criteria, drawing standards, company policies, and procedures.
- Evaluate mechanical designs and systems for performance, safety, and reliability.
- Develop and direct the preparation of engineering layouts, drawings, specifications, and bills of material.
- Perform engineering analysis to select parts, components, and materials that meet product requirements.
- Provide technical engineering assistance for production support as needed.
- Investigate and resolve technical issues reported to Engineering, including determining root causes and making design improvements.
- Prepare technical proposals, quotations, reports, and presentations to communicate recommendations and solutions.
- Develop and maintain project documentation, including engineering analysis, research, and historical records.
- Apply analytical and mathematical methods to model system performance, evaluate alternatives, and optimize designs.
- Attend onsite regularly.
