About The Position

KLA is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Central Engineering team. This role will focus on designing mechanical parts and subsystems for next-generation wafer inspection tools. The engineer will be responsible for the complete design process, from requirements and concept to design, testing, BOM structure, and scheduling. They will work cross-functionally to implement design best practices, ensuring designs meet requirements, specifications, SEMI standards, manufacturability, and cost targets. Responsibilities include conducting various analyses (thermal, vibration, FEA), conceptual and detailed design using Creo Parametric, creating detailed drawings, presenting design reviews, procuring prototype parts, system integration, prototype testing, and handing off to manufacturing. Collaboration with Systems and Manufacturing engineers is key for seamless integration and testing. The role also involves developing supporting documentation like assembly and test procedures.

Requirements

  • Solid understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals such as mechanics, thermodynamics, and structural analysis
  • Ability to collect requirements, generate conceptual and detailed designs for mechanical parts/subsystems and possess analytical skills to evaluate feasibility of designs.
  • Ability to carry out assembly, testing and resolving issues at prototype and integrated system levels
  • Experience in detail drawing creation and application and interpretation of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y14.5) and welding (AWS A2.4) symbols
  • Familiar with engineering materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum alloys, and plastics
  • Familiar with manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, plating, etc.
  • Experience in 3D solid/CAD modeling, preferably Creo/Parametric (previously Pro/Engineer)
  • Experience in structural finite element analysis (FEA) and software, preferably Pro/Mechanical and/or ANSYS Mechanical
  • Experience in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis software, preferably ANSYS Icepak/Fluent/CFX or similar
  • Highly organized and efficient, with a strong ability to optimize time management.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Doctorate (Academic) Degree and 0 years related work experience; Master's Level Degree and related work experience of 3 years; Bachelor's Level Degree and related work experience of 5 years

Responsibilities

  • Lead the complete design process, including requirements, concept, design, testing, BOM structure, and scheduling.
  • Work cross-functionally and drive implementation of design best practices into product design that meets the requirements and specifications, SEMI standards, as well as adhering to manufacturability and reasonable cost.
  • Conduct various analysis, such as thermal, vibration and FEA modeling, conceptual and detailed design using Creo Parametric, detailed drawings, design review presentations, procurement of prototype parts, system integration, prototype testing, and handoff to manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with engineering groups such as Systems engineers and Manufacturing engineers to ensure seamless integration and subsystem test or system level.
  • Develop the required supporting documentation, such as assembly and test procedures.
