Sr. Material Handler - Forklift Operator
About The Position
BlueLinx is seeking a Material Handler/Forklift Operator to assist at its distribution center. Material Handlers safely load trucks and unload railcars, emphasizing safety, quality of service, teamwork, integrity, and customer service. The role includes operating forklifts to move building materials, handling shipping paperwork, inspecting equipment, keeping the work area tidy, and assisting with inventory counts. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with a stated fixed pay rate of $23.55 per hour, no less than the local minimum wage. Actual compensation may depend on experience, qualifications, skills, geographic location, and other job-related considerations. Healthcare, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance are stated to begin on the first day of the month, and the company provides eight paid holidays per year.
Requirements
- One year of recent forklift or warehouse experience.
- Ability to proficiently and safely use a forklift to transport products and load or unload trucks.
- Ability to understand and follow directions.
- Ability to work independently, at times under pressure.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to read and comprehend sales orders, purchase orders, safety material, and similar documents.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with basic math skills.
- Safe work record and stable work history.
Responsibilities
- Operate a forklift in compliance with forklift training and safety guidelines.
- Load, unload, and store building materials from trailers or railcars while minimizing damage.
- Store and retrieve materials, including piece-pick and/or bulk materials.
- Prepare paperwork required for distribution and shipping products.
- Perform daily inspection and maintenance of equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness in the working and assigned area.
- Assist with periodic inventory counts as requested.
