About The Position

The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer will support the process development, specification, and launch of equipment used for manufacturing of lithium-ion cells, focusing on working with Product Engineers and Technicians to build processes, conducting experiments to validate process solutions, and implementing those solutions through equipment launches alongside Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance staff. This role requires experience with standardized manufacturing practices, a willingness to understand ‘why’ something is, and the ability to coordinate equipment launches with cross-functional teams. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing, improving, and maintaining the processes critical to lithium-ion cell production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related engineering, science, or related technical field. Relevant work experience can be substituted in lieu of a degree with knowledge of basic engineering principles
  • 10+ years of experience working in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment (preferably in lithium-ion cell or battery manufacturing), specifically related to process development and equipment launch
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong commitment to safe equipment design
  • Experience writing process documentation to record the process of record (work instructions, control plans, PFMEAs, etc)
  • Strong analysis and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis (8D or 5Why) and problem-solving tools (PDCA)
  • Ability to identify manufacturing difficulties and possible solutions for multiple processes
  • Excellent cross-functional communication and teamwork skills, working primarily with engineers and technicians; Excellent project management skills.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing equipment and quality assurance techniques and processes.
  • Commitment to health and safety standards and environmental regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with, or knowledge of, any of the following areas of lithium-ion manufacturing preferred – film notching/ cutting, film layer stacking, ultra-sonic welding of thin materials, heat staking, fluid filling processes

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading process development, writing technical specifications for new equipment, launching equipment through Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing, writing technical documentation including but not limited to work instructions, PFMEAs, control plans, preventative maintenance schedules, and spare parts lists.
  • Lead planning and installation of new manufacturing equipment and qualification processes.
  • Map, document, and analyze processes to understand process flow diagrams and material flow diagrams to identify inefficiencies, and provide actionable insights for optimization which allows for efficiency, quality, scalability, and waste reduction
  • Provide initial data to show product can be manufactured at spec for new equipment
  • Inform and train affected technicians on new processes
  • Provide feedback to design engineering in regard to manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA) of core EnPower products
