About The Position

Lead the team responsible for performing the engineering, design, and equipment procurement as well as providing assistance to the construction and project management groups on large-scale civil and electric transmission projects on the Long Island T&D system. This position offers extensive problem solving and challenging leadership opportunities, and represents the Engineering Department in various key internal stakeholder committees and represents PSEGLI/LIPA on technical stakeholder committees. The primary focus of this position is to support the demands on Transmission & Civil Engineering resources to be able to provide timely and sound engineering services in support of the LIPA Capital Projects portfolio and sound evaluations and assessments on the impacts that the New York State Clean Energy Standards /New York's Climate Leadership & Community Protection Act (CLCPA), the Long Island Offshore Wind Public Policy Transmission Need (LI OSW PPTN), the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) Interconnection Projects. Additionally, this position supports the Climate Change Vulnerability Study initiatives will have on the LIPA T&D Electric Transmission facilities, while providing timely and sound engineering services in support of all resulting Capital Projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the Operation/Design of electric Transmission facilities / civil structures, of which 3 years of direct supervisory experience is required
  • Detailed knowledge of applicable industry standards (ASCE, IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC, etc.) related to Overhead / Underground Transmission and Civil engineering, design and operation
  • Ability to lead and motivate the team members and the ability to effectively collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders is essential to the success of this position
  • Must possess In depth knowledge of all major transmission equipment and have advanced knowledge in interpreting electrical and civil construction drawings
  • Valid US driver's license as this position requires travel to various substation and off-site locations
  • Compliance with the Department of Energy's regulation 10 CFR 810 is required

Responsibilities

  • Lead a varied technical team of associates, and direct the engineering services for construction/upgrade of electric transmission and supporting civil facilities based upon reliability and economy with consideration to operations, economics, safety and maintenance requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to operations, project management, planning, power, marketing/sales departments, and as well as external customers in support of the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) Transmission & Distribution system.
  • Review Transmission and Distribution interconnection proposals (HVDC, FACTS, Renewables) resulting from the NYISO Interconnection process, New York State Clean Energy Standards /New York's Climate Leadership & Community Protection Act (CLCPA), responses to RFPs and LIPA solicitations, for compliance with LIPA transmission interconnection standards.
  • Review proposed modifications to existing Transmission and new facilities as identified by Planning studies and the Long Island Offshore Wind Public Policy Transmission Need (LI OSW PPTN) submittals based upon reliability and economy with consideration to operations, economics, safety and maintenance requirements.
  • Evaluate the application and use of materials, equipment and new technologies for LIPA’s electrical transmission system.
  • Develop material, engineering design, construction specifications/associated drawings, and standards as required for successful completion of assigned projects.
  • Perform budget/project cost estimates, develop project justifications, and participate in root cause analysis, special engineering studies, investigations and calculations as required.
