Plasmids are Addgene’s largest and most established product portfolio. They are also the platform from which everything else grows — viral vectors, antibodies, new formats, new markets. The Senior Manager, Scientific Product Management owns day-to-day execution across this portfolio, which includes segmentation, catalog health, roadmap delivery, and launch execution, in close partnership with the Director of Scientific Product Management. This is a role for someone who wants to grow a business — who leads with outcomes, moves with urgency, and knows how to translate scientific insight into commercial results. The right candidate will inherit a portfolio with strong foundations and significant untapped potential, and will be expected to deliver on both in the near term while building the strategic runway for 2028 and beyond. To Succeed in this Role, You Will Own: Portfolio Performance & Analytics Track and report on plasmid portfolio performance — including revenue growth, margin optimization, and long-term portfolio health — and deliver on targets set in the Annual Operating Plan (AOP). Set and hit clear performance targets for the portfolio: revenue growth, adoption rates, market penetration, and customer retention across academic, biotech, and pharma segments. Identify performance gaps and recommend pricing, positioning, promotional, or product-mix adjustments to protect and grow commercial outcomes. Product Strategy & Roadmap Execution Execute the multi-year plasmid product roadmap, balancing near-term revenue delivery with longer-term innovation bets. Drive the full product lifecycle for the plasmid portfolio — from opportunity identification and concept validation through launch, growth, optimization, and, where appropriate, rationalization. Support the I2L (Idea-to-Launch) pipeline for plasmid-related innovations, including new formats like Transfection-Ready DNA, defining what comes next on that roadmap, and shepherding line extension projects through gate decisions. Apply plasmid segmentation outputs to prioritize where Addgene invests, where it defends, and where it rationalizes — making clear, defensible calls with supporting data. Develop and implement a plasmid intake evaluation framework for large deposits, including accept/decline criteria and cost-benefit analysis, to improve catalog quality and scalability. Market Insight & Commercial Intelligence Run an ongoing Voice of the Customer (VOC) program, translating researcher needs into product priorities and roadmap recommendations. Maintain deep knowledge of the plasmid competitive landscape — who the players are, what they offer, how Addgene is positioned, and where the gaps and white space lie. Monitor market trends, funding shifts, and emerging research applications (e.g., gene therapy, synthetic biology, CRISPR) to anticipate demand and position the portfolio ahead of the curve. Turn market intelligence into concrete recommendations, pricing moves, product concepts, or go-to-market adjustments. Go-to-Market Execution Execute annual commercial plans for the plasmid portfolio — launch activities, marketing coordination, channel activation, and partnership initiatives — in partnership with Marketing, Distribution, and Business Development. Own the commercial launch of Transfection-Ready DNA and any subsequent new formats, from go-to-market strategy through post-launch performance monitoring and optimization. Define clear value propositions and messaging for each plasmid segment, ensuring Addgene’s positioning is differentiated, credible, and compelling to target customers. Partner with the Distribution Manager to ensure distributor partners are equipped, motivated, and accountable for plasmid sell-through in their markets. 2027 Planning & Strategic Roadmap Provide plasmid portfolio analysis and input into the 2027 Operating Plan and 3–5 year commercial roadmap, under the Head of Product Management's direction. Develop business cases and Market Requirements Documents (MRDs) for new product ideas advancing through the I2L process, ensuring each is grounded in customer evidence and commercial viability. Surface partnership opportunities that could accelerate plasmid portfolio growth for the Business Development team to evaluate. Cross-Functional Leadership Lead cross-functional core teams — spanning Operation, R&D, Marketing, Scientific Engagement, Operations, and Digital product— to deliver portfolio objectives on time and to commercial standard. Hold cross-functional partners accountable to shared milestones and commercial outcomes, escalating blockers quickly and decisively. Serve as the internal authority on the plasmid portfolio — the person who knows it best, advocates for it most effectively, and can represent it credibly to any audience. Represent Addgene externally at conferences, partner meetings, and industry events, building market presence and returning with actionable intelligence.
