About The Position

The University of Miami’s (UM) Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science is seeking to hire a full-time Sr. Manager, Programs to serve as project manager for a NOAA-funded project titled “Building Miami’s Community, Coastal, and Climate Resilience through Citizen Science Habitat Restoration”. The principal objective of the funding opportunity is to support opportunities for underserved communities to meaningfully engage in habitat restoration activities so this project will bring together established community-based citizen science programs here in Miami-Dade County to act as a vehicle for raising awareness, building capacity, and increasing climate resiliency. This will be accomplished through community engagement, coastal and coral reef restoration, marine debris removal, and climate education activities with project collaborators: University of Miami’s Rescue a Reef program (RAR), Black Women in Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Science (BWEEMS), Debris Free Oceans (DFO), Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science (MUVE), Miami Waterkeeper (MWK), and The CLEO Institute (CLEO). The Sr. Manager will be responsible for coordinating, carrying out, and tracking all project activities with the support of collaborators. This project aims to build community trust, capacity, and participation in local marine restoration and advocacy efforts. We are therefore seeking a highly motivated candidate that has demonstrated experience in community engagement and habitat conservation as well as strong communication and managerial skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of experience in community engagement, marine science, or related field
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, public speaking, and leadership skills
  • Flexibility to work long/variable hours including occasional evenings and weekends

Responsibilities

  • Organize and coordinate project activities, schedules, and timelines
  • Lead community-needs assessments, outreach events, and town halls
  • Support climate education trainings and workshops
  • Co-host citizen science habitat restoration and enhancement activities
  • Manage project communication strategies
  • Identify, train, and co-supervise project interns
  • Track all project activities and coordinate across partners
  • Prepare progress reports on project activities
  • Ensure project deliverables and goals are met
