Sr. Manager, Finance & Strategy

OpenGov•San Francisco, CA
•$170,000 - $220,000•Onsite

About The Position

OpenGov is seeking a highly analytical, strategic, and hands-on Sr. Manager to join its GTM Finance & Strategy team. The final title depends on the candidate’s qualifications. The role owns critical financial and operational analyses, forecasting processes, and business reporting across Sales, Customer Success, and Marketing, partnering with GTM leadership to support growth. The position requires turning complex and sometimes messy operational data into clear insights that improve decision-making, balancing detailed analysis with a broad understanding of the business, and communicating findings effectively to executive audiences. The role is based in-office at OpenGov’s San Francisco headquarters and reports directly to the Director, GTM Finance & Strategy. It works closely with the CFO and GTM leadership. The successful candidate will own performance analysis and reporting, recurring revenue analytics, GTM spend planning, financial models, forecasting frameworks, and strategic projects. They will take analytical deliverables from initial direction through data extraction, modeling, validation, synthesis, and executive-ready presentation, while building trusted cross-functional partnerships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5–8+ years of experience, including progressive strategic finance experience at a high-growth SaaS company.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, intellectual persistence, and ownership mentality, including willingness to investigate difficult data and modeling problems deeply.
  • Ability to drive structured, well-reasoned analysis and decisions in ambiguous, fast-moving environments, largely independently.
  • Strong written and visual communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex analyses into concise, polished, executive-ready presentations and articulate assumptions, risks, and findings.
  • Advanced financial modeling skills, including the ability to build complex models from first principles and make them scalable.
  • Fluency with CRM data, such as Salesforce CPQ, and BI tools such as Looker; comfort working directly with complex, messy data to diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Actively experiment with AI tools to simplify and scale work, building workflows and thinking in systems rather than one-offs.
  • Experience mentoring or reviewing junior analysts’ work and providing clear direction, constructive feedback, and rigorous analytical quality control.
  • Low ego and high output, with focus on the work rather than credit.

Nice To Haves

  • Foundational experience in investment banking or private equity is strongly preferred.
  • An MBA is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the performance narrative for Sales, Customer Success, and Marketing, connecting operational drivers to enterprise-wide financial outcomes.
  • Forecast and explain topline performance, including bookings, sales capacity and productivity, retention, pipeline coverage, and win rates, by product and segment; connect these drivers to revenue outcomes and own the associated analytical infrastructure.
  • Own configuration and maintenance of the systematized ARR reporting infrastructure; collaborate with Commercial Ops on CPQ data structure, hygiene, and deal guardrails, and with Accounting on GAAP revenue dynamics.
  • Track recurring SaaS metrics, including ARR, Gross Retention (GRR), and Net Retention (NRR).
  • Own the end-to-end P&L and accurately forecast and manage GTM spend, including headcount, travel and expenses, and commissions; drive accountability through budget-versus-actual partnership.
  • Architect and continuously improve the financial models, reporting infrastructure, and forecasting frameworks that support business planning and measurement.
  • Lead strategic projects, including long-range planning, go-to-market strategy, sales capacity analysis, market analysis, and variable compensation design.
  • Execute complex analytical deliverables from initial direction through final presentation, including data extraction, modeling, validation, and synthesis, with high accuracy and minimal oversight.
  • Build cross-functional partnerships with Sales, Professional Services, RevOps, Customer Success, and the CFO’s office, and represent Finance & Strategy in strategic planning.
  • Mentor or review the work of junior analysts and provide direction, constructive feedback, and analytical quality control.
