The Associate Director, Engineering & Maintenance is responsible for the overall strategic Capital plan, and proper maintenance of all equipment in the plant. This role is accountable for improving the plant's competitive advantage using preventative and predictive maintenance technologies, interfacing with hourly and salaried maintenance personnel daily, and other departments to improve equipment reliability and production capacity. The position is accountable for associated capital and expense budgets, setting department goals, administering company policies, providing training, and ensuring all safety and OSHA requirements are met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience leading an Engineering or Maintenance team
  • 5+ years managing engineering capital projects
  • Manufacturing experience

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years maintenance/engineering experience within manufacturing
  • Experience in food manufacturing, specifically bakery production.
  • Certifications -PMP (Project Management Professional), CMRP (Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional), SMRP (Society for Maintenance & Reliability Professionals), or Lean Six Sigma.
  • In-depth knowledge of maintenance systems, predictive and preventive maintenance.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams, driving performance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Experience in budget preparation, CAPEX planning, and execution.
  • Ability to manage resources effectively to meet maintenance demands while optimizing costs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the execution of the Progressive Maintenance / Equipment Reliability strategic plan that maintains the plant's electrical, mechanical, and control systems.
  • Direct all reliability and maintenance activities and programs (preventative, predictive, and corrective) to ensure maximum operational potential.
  • Responsible for the development and execution of the sites strategic capital plan, along with proper resourcing for on time/budget project execution.
  • Develops a competent and efficient Engineering & Maintenance Department workforce, ensuring employees have the experience, tools, supplies, and materials required for performing maintenance services.
  • Creates a department staffing model to achieve required business outcomes.
  • Monitors capital & expense budgets for the Engineering and Maintenance Departments.
  • Manages use of labor and materials to optimize department effectiveness.
  • Oversees and manages major maintenance and project requirements with manufacturing production and engineering, including significant downtime activities.
  • Enforces company procedures and policies regarding safety and employee conduct; maintaining a work environment that promotes teamwork.
  • Balancing the needs and development of a diverse team of engineers, technicians, and maintenance staff while ensuring high performance and morale.
  • Overseeing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards. This involves managing risks and unforeseen issues.
  • Continuously identifying and implementing improvements to enhance operational efficiency, involving complex problem-solving and innovation.
  • Developing and maintaining advanced technical knowledge in maintenance systems, predictive and preventive maintenance, and engineering practices.
  • Ensuring all maintenance and engineering activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry-specific standards.
  • Managing resources effectively to meet maintenance demands while optimizing costs, involving strategic planning and budgeting.
  • Collaborating with various departments to ensure alignment and support for maintenance and engineering initiatives.
  • Managing relationships with vendors and leveraging company network size to maximize economies of scale.
  • Monitoring and analyzing performance metrics to drive continuous improvement and achieve organizational goals.
  • Identifying, investigating, and resolving technical issues related to equipment failures and faulty processes. Leading root cause analyses within a short time frame, with limited information.
  • Leading change initiatives and overcoming resistance to organizational change, influencing employees to embrace new practices.
