In this vital role, you will provide leadership for Facilities & Engineering operations supporting Amgen Ohio (AOH), a state-of-the-art final drug product manufacturing facility. You will be responsible for the safe, reliable, compliant, and efficient operation of site utility, facility, and infrastructure systems that support commercial manufacturing operations. Reporting to the Director of Facilities & Engineering, the Senior Manager will lead a team of engineers and technical professionals responsible for utility systems, sustainability initiatives, asset lifecycle management, and engineering support activities. The role will work closely with Reliability Engineering, Maintenance, Manufacturing, Quality, EHS, and Capital Projects to ensure site operational readiness and long-term asset performance. The Senior Manager will be a key leader in driving reliability, operational excellence, sustainability, inspection readiness, and continuous improvement across the AOH campus.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree and 2 years of Engineering experience OR Master’s degree and 6 years of Engineering experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of Engineering experience OR Associate’s degree and 10 years of Engineering experience OR High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Engineering experience
  • A minimum of 2 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources.
  • Managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in Facilities, Utilities, Engineering, Reliability, or related technical functions.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing engineering or technical teams.
  • Experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of plant utilities, clean utilities, HVAC systems, facility infrastructure, and building management systems.
  • Experience supporting GMP manufacturing operations and regulatory inspections.
  • Knowledge of reliability engineering principles, asset management programs, and predictive maintenance technologies.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and asset management tools.
  • Demonstrated success leading continuous improvement, operational excellence, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to provide occasional off-hours support for critical business and operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and technical direction to a team of Facilities & Engineering professionals responsible for plant utilities, HVAC, building automation systems, electrical distribution, refrigeration systems and facility infrastructure.
  • Ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operation of utility and facility systems supporting commercial packaging manufacturing.
  • Develop and implement engineering strategies that improve asset reliability, operational performance, and lifecycle sustainability.
  • Partner closely with Reliability Engineering to drive asset performance, condition-based monitoring, predictive maintenance strategies, and risk reduction initiatives.
  • Serve as the engineering owner for critical utility and facility systems, ensuring robust lifecycle management and system performance.
  • Lead initiatives to improve equipment reliability, system availability, and operational efficiency across site infrastructure.
  • Utilize performance metrics and engineering data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and risk mitigation.
  • Drive root cause investigations and corrective actions for significant utility, facility, or infrastructure events.
  • Support the development and implementation of reliability-centered maintenance and asset management strategies.
  • Foster a culture of operational excellence through Lean, Continuous Improvement, and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Ensure utility systems operate in accordance with cGMP, regulatory, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Maintain a state of inspection readiness and support internal audits, regulatory inspections, and partner visits.
  • Ensure engineering documentation, procedures, change controls, deviations, CAPAs, and maintenance practices remain compliant and effective.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Validation organizations to support qualification, requalification, and ongoing compliance activities.
  • Support site capital investment planning and execution related to utility, facility, and infrastructure systems.
  • Provide engineering oversight for facility upgrades, expansions, equipment replacements, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
  • Drive long-range asset lifecycle planning and support Amgen’s Global Lifecycle Asset Management programs.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure successful startup, commissioning, qualification, and operational integration of new assets.
  • Lead sustainability initiatives supporting Amgen’s environmental and energy reduction commitments.
  • Support utility forecasting, operating budgets, capital planning, and resource allocation activities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to optimize utility consumption, operational efficiency, and infrastructure performance.
  • Ensure business continuity through proactive infrastructure planning, risk management, and contingency preparedness.
  • Build, develop, and retain a high-performing engineering organization.
  • Establish clear goals, performance expectations, and development plans for team members.
  • Foster a collaborative culture focused on safety, accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Drive engagement and technical capability development across the Facilities & Engineering organization.
