About The Position

The Senior Manager, Clinical Consultant serves as the clinical and procedural subject matter expert for Owens & Minor's Custom Procedure Tray (CPT) business. This role partners with Sales, Product Management, Portfolio Profitability, Sourcing, Manufacturing, and Customer Success teams to optimize custom packs, evaluate component utilization, identify standardization opportunities, and improve clinical, operational, and financial outcomes. The role combines deep perioperative expertise with commercial and operational acumen to deliver value through pack reviews, component optimization, proprietary product adoption, and customer-facing clinical consultation. The Senior Manager acts as a trusted advisor to both customers and internal stakeholders, helping ensure custom packs are clinically appropriate, operationally efficient, and financially sustainable. This role sits at the intersection of clinical expertise, customer engagement, and portfolio optimization. It drives customer value, operational efficiency, and margin improvement by ensuring custom packs are designed and maintained using best clinical practices while supporting strategic growth initiatives.

Requirements

  • Clinical credentials with perioperative experience (RN, BSN, Surgical Technologist, PA, or equivalent clinical background).
  • Minimum 5 years of operating room, procedural, or perioperative clinical experience.
  • Experience with custom procedure trays, surgical products, OR supply chain, or healthcare distribution preferred.
  • Strong understanding of surgical workflows, clinical product utilization, and value analysis processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence clinicians, supply chain leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to translate clinical observations into actionable operational and commercial recommendations.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30%.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of existing custom procedure trays to identify opportunities for optimization, standardization, and simplification.
  • Evaluate pack component utilization and procedural workflows to eliminate unnecessary items and reduce variation.
  • Partner with customers and clinical stakeholders to align pack configurations with current clinical practice.
  • Lead pack review initiatives that improve customer outcomes while reducing complexity and cost.
  • Serve as the clinical authority for component recommendations and pack design decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to increase utilization of proprietary and preferred products within custom packs.
  • Partner with Sourcing, Product Management, and Portfolio Profitability teams to evaluate alternative products, conversions, and supplier rationalization opportunities.
  • Support category management initiatives by identifying standardization opportunities across customer portfolios.
  • Provide clinical guidance on component substitutions, conversions, and new product introductions.
  • Serve as a clinical consultant during customer pack reviews, implementations, renewals, and retention activities.
  • Facilitate clinical value analysis discussions with surgeons, perioperative leaders, and supply chain teams.
  • Support field sales teams by providing clinical expertise during strategic customer engagements.
  • Conduct on-site customer assessments and procedural observations to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with Sales and Customer Success teams to develop customer-specific optimization recommendations.
  • Quantify clinical, operational, and financial benefits associated with pack redesign opportunities.
  • Support retention and growth initiatives by demonstrating value through consultative pack optimization.
  • Contribute to margin improvement efforts through component standardization and proprietary product conversion strategies.
  • Partner with Manufacturing and Operations teams to improve pack configurations that support production efficiency and scalability.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and Marketing on customer-facing clinical value messaging.
  • Support supplier reviews, product evaluations, and strategic sourcing initiatives from a clinical perspective.
  • Act as the voice of the customer and clinician in cross-functional decision making.
